We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our microbiology team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working within the Molecular Microbiology and Pathogenomics Group within Global Biologics to support projects in veterinary vaccines research. This will include growth and characterization of bacteria or viruses relevant to animal health. You will interact with molecular bacteriologists and utilize bioinformatics & genomics tools to develop live and inactivated vaccines.
Primary Duties:
Assist design, molecular construction, and initial characterization of new plasmids and strains used in vaccine research.
Assist creation of gene-deleted bacterial strains using various gene-editing tools including CRISPR/Cas9. Characterize candidates by PCR and DNA sequencing methods.
Support evaluation of bacterial antigen characterization using western blotting and ELISA techniques.
Internship Qualifications:
Enrolled in an MS or PhD degree program related to molecular biology or microbiology.
Have good understanding of molecular cloning, DNA isolation, PCR, gene expression, and Western Blotting.
Experience with bacterial propagation and plasmid cloning methods.
Knowledge of plasmid biology, gene editing, immunology and immune assays is desirable.
Strong communication skills and ability to work as an individual as well as within team settings.
The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position:
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Associate-level degree: $16.00 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $20.00 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $32.50 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $36.00 per hour
The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois (Chicago area), Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington (Seattle area):
