Purpose of Position
The Department of Aviation at the University of North Dakota seeks qualified applicants for a 9-month, tenure track, faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, or for a tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor (open rank). An offer of tenure may be made for those being hired at the Associate or Full Professor rank based on a candidate's documented record of achievement and attainment of tenure at another institution in a similar field, subject to approval from the Department, College, University, and the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education. Anticipated start date for this position is August 16, 2025.
Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Teaching various aviation courses (3/3 course load equivalent for Assistant Professors or higher ranks) at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Teaching various aviation undergraduate technical and professional course, and graduate courses to include safety, research design, flight courses and human factors.
Maintain at least a 20% research load working toward externally funded grants in an aviation discipline.
Advising and mentor students on academic and career aspirations.
Serving on departmental, college and university committees, as assigned.
Supervising graduate students conducting scholarly activities.
Required Competencies
Ability to teach and develop a broad array of aviation courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Ability to conduct quality academic research.
Competent in using scholarly tools.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D., Ed.D. or J.D. degree, in aviation, aviation education, or closely related field.
5 years of professional aviation experience.
Evidence of established record of successful, collegiate-level classroom teaching in aviation.
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
FAA Pilot and Flight Instructor certifications.
Published research.
Professor (any rank) at a College/University.
Past five years of performance in research, teaching, and service meets the UND Aviation Promotion and Tenure Standards that would be sufficient for granting tenure and hiring at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
