The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) is searching for a Human Resource Specialist-Talent Acquisition. LAS is home to 15,000 students; 1,300 faculty and staff; and over 186,000 alumni. The HR Specialist- Talent Acquisition initiates, coordinates and assists with talent acquisition processes within designated portfolio.



Duties & Responsibilities




Search Coordination

• Submit hiring requests to appropriate offices for review and approval; prepares and routes hiring workflows for searches and applicable search waivers
• Coordinate search processes for all employee groups, advise on best practices; guide hiring official, search committee and stakeholders through search process; work closely with office support staff on scheduling of interviews; may conduct reference checks
• Partner with IHR-TAP throughout civil service search processes; consult with IHR-Classification and Compensation and the Office for Access and Equity, as needed
• Provide salary recommendations; draft staff and non-tenured faculty offer letters
• Submit background/misconduct check requests and any other end-of-search paperwork
• Assembles and forwards faculty hire dossiers for Board of Trustees approval
• Maintain search records



Position Administration

• Provide guidance and support to supervisors with job description creation and review
• Assist units with understanding employee groups, civil service class specifications and salary structures
• Stay abreast of changes/additions in civil service classifications



Promotions

• Coordinate with the unit contact promotion-related paperwork; prepare and route workflows
• Advise units on promotional paths; reviews internal and external equity data; provides guidance on appropriate title and salary
• Draft promotion letters



Other

• Research advertising sources for all employee groups; maintain list of successful recruitment sources; work with LAS Marketing and Communication on development and maintenance of recruitment materials
• Participate in new employee onboarding, as needed
• Assist with I-9 forms, as needed
• May initiate HRFE transactions during peak processing periods
• Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the unit



Required Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Minimum of two years of progressive work experience that demonstrates strong ability to research, interpret and make recommendations based on HR policy.

  • Experience working in a union environment and interpreting contract language.

  • Experience with common computer applications and demonstrated ability to learn new programs.

  • Experience providing human resources support and coordination, preferably working with search processes and committees, at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign.

  • Experience in documentation, training, search and hire practices, work authorizations, and/or appointments processing.

  • Project management training and/or experience working on HR information systems projects.

  • Proven track record of customer service to diverse clients.

  • Results oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively with others, the ability to interact with a broad array of internal and external constituents, and the ability to concurrently manage multiple complex tasks, meticulous attention to detail.

  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences, commitment to diversity and inclusion.

  • Knowledge of University and Campus policies related to Human Resources including but not limited to those listed in the Recruitment and Hiring Guidelines, Campus Administrative Manual, Provost's Communications, and Policies and Rules.

  • Knowledge of Cornerstone, JDExpert, or other search-related software. Knowledge of Banner, HRFE, I-9 Tracker.

  • Working knowledge of University of Illinois business and human resources policies and procedures.


Appointment Information



This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $55-65,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote work and in-person work in Champaign-Urbana each week) after an initial on-site training period.
