Semmes Murphey Clinic's mission is to deliver the best care for people suffering from neurological illnesses while advancing the field of neuroscience


The Referral Coordinator will triage all incoming referrals and recommend with which provider that patient should be scheduled. In addition, the Referral Coordinator will work with other Contact Center staff to resolve patient issues and perform general administrative tasks as needed.


The hours for this position will be Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. This is a hybrid position, following onsite training for the initial 3 months.

Requirements:

We are searching for a candidate who can:

  • Review incoming referral/appointment requests, ensuring they are addressed in a timely manner; schedule appointments when possible
  • Maintain provider relationships and troubleshoot issues and concerns related to, or from Providers or other clinical staff members
  • Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patients and/or referring physician offices are provided with professional communication relative to the status of the requests
  • Triage referral requests that need more specific advice from the nurse or other clinical staff; identify emergent or urgent calls/referrals and handle according to establish guidelines
  • Make calls to patients to obtain additional insurance information and notify patient if their insurance is not accepted or eligible
  • Answer questions from Contact Center employees to resolve issues encountered on calls and with referrals
  • Maintain current knowledge of Providers' Criteria, OON/In Network Insurances, Clinic employees/roles and procedures/protocols

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the healthcare field, as well as heavy telephone usage and strong customer service experience/focus. Familiarity with healthcare privacy laws is preferred, and bilingual in Spanish is a plus.


The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Internet software, electronic medical records and practice management software. Organizational skills with attention to detail is required.
