Job Description
Join KPFF's Prime Design Group as a Team Leader in Northern California, where you'll oversee a diverse portfolio of multi-disciplinary projects for public agencies, transportation authorities, and industrial clients. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for driving both the strategic and operational success of your team and projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Business Development: Set clear departmental goals, identify new business opportunities, and lead proposal development and marketing efforts to drive growth, innovation, and long-term client relationships.
Client Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, representing the firm in high-level discussions, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects while maintaining strong, lasting client relationships.
Project Oversight & Quality Control: Lead the execution of complex structural engineering projects, ensuring they meet or exceed quality standards, stay within project timelines and budgets, and comply with all regulatory requirements.
Team Development & Mentorship: Build and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams, providing mentorship to junior and senior engineers, while fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented environment that prioritizes professional development and engineering excellence.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering; Master's degree preferred
Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering, with significant experience in a leadership role
Extensive knowledge of structural engineering principles, materials, and advanced analysis techniques
Proven track record of managing high-level client relationships and successful business development efforts
Strong proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAP2000)
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource management
Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills
Outstanding communication and presentation abilities, with experience in client negotiations and high-stakes discussions
In-depth knowledge of regulatory standards, building codes, and construction practices
Familiarity with sustainable design principles and industry certifications (e.g., LEED, Envision) is a plus
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer, reviewing plans, or conducting site visits.
Capacity to move around project sites, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain.
Occasionally lifting up to 15 pounds of equipment or materials.
Additional Information
Compensation The base salary for this role is competitive, with a range of $110,000 - $160,000, determined by experience, education, and skills. KPFF also offers performance-based bonuses to recognize outstanding contributions.
