SUMMARY:



Under the supervision of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, for administering hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBO) to wound center patients.

LOCATION: Massena Hospital



DEPARTMENT: MH Wound Care



SCHEDULE: 8 hour day shift



ATTRIBUTES




  • Required: 5 years related work experience in a healthcare and customer service setting



  • Required: Attend 40 hour Wound and Hyperbaric training within first month of hire.



  • Required: HBO Safety Director Training at designated teaching within first six months of hire.



  • Required: Hyperbaric Certification to be obtained within 18 months of hire.



  • Preferred: Associate Degree



  • Preferred: 3 years working in a Certified Medical Assistant or LPN role in an office setting



RESPONSIBILITES



  • The Hyperbaric Coordinator is responsible, coordinate care for all HBO patients in financial, medical, and treatment aspects of their care.


  • Work directly with Providers to determine if patients meet qualification for HBO therapy.


  • Complete quality reporting for all HBO patient registries.


  • Determines the patient condition is an approved condition for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.


  • Obtains insurance authorization for HBO treatment course.


  • Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the hyperbaric chambers and ancillary components.


  • Educates the patient's, families and staff as to the benefits, risks, contraindications and safety considerations.


  • Reviews outcomes and adverse reactions with treating Physician and/or Medical Director and Manager.


  • Acts to prevent potentially hazardous items from entering the hyperbaric chamber.


  • Performs quality control on blood glucose monitor, maintains quality control logs and HBO checklist daily.


  • Coordinates annual HBO chamber maintenance with chamber manufacturer (Pan American Hyperbaric, Inc.).


  • Serves on the Safety Committee.


  • Performs and documents quarterly hyperbaric safety drills.


  • Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex issues, patient cases, or technical skills.


  • Interviewing the patient and/or their representative for necessary information and completing the registration process as defined by departmental policy. (meet and greet)


  • Identification of services where no payment source has been identified to be followed up by communication of financial assistance and/or payment arrangements.


  • Verification of insurance eligibility/coverage and obtaining necessary precertification/authorizations when applicable.


  • Collecting/processing co-payments, deductibles and/or other types of payments. Provides an estimate of cost when applicable.


  • Reviews charges in charge review WQs for completeness and accuracy.


  • Ensures the accuracy of all data collected while meeting the regulatory requirements as outlined by the departmental policy.


  • Applies mastery of skills in area of specialization


  • Provides guidance and general oversight to less experienced employees; may train new employees.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.



PAY RANGE: $24.50 - $31.25

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
