MATRIX is seeking a Sr. Project Engineer to join our team. The Senior Project Engineer will lead high-complexity nuclear projects across one of our clients project portfolios throughout the US. This role will be pivotal to the success of their heavy-lift operations, ensuring technical precision, safety, and compliance in challenging environments.
Candidate must be able to pass background screening and drug testing to obtain unescorted access to a US Nuclear Facility.
Experience with nuclear power generation, heavy rigging, lifting and heavy material movement is desired.
The position will primarily be based in Memphis, TN with travel to job sites as required. 1st assignment would likely be in San Luis Obispo, C. Remote work arrangements may also be considered.
Responsibilities
Project Planning & Engineering
Develop and oversee detailed plans for heavy-lift operations, including rigging, load path analysis, equipment selection, and contingency strategies.
Conduct structural analyses and ensure feasibility and compliance with nuclear safety standards.
Prepare and submit technical documentation and specifications for approval by engineering and regulatory bodies.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce strict adherence to safety standards, including ASME, OSHA, AISC, ANSI, and project-specific design parameters.
Perform risk assessments and mitigate hazards associated with heavy-lift operations.
Stakeholder Coordination
Collaborate with plant operations, maintenance, and outage planning teams to integrate heavy-lift activities seamlessly into the project schedule.
Serve as the technical liaison with plant personnel, equipment manufacturers, contractors, and third-party engineering firms.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Civil, or related Engineering field.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years in engineering roles, with at least 5 years specializing in nuclear power sector heavy-lift operations.
Proven expertise in feedwater heater replacement (complete and bundle-only options).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Lift Planner, and industry-specific software.
Strong knowledge of standards/regulations (OSHA, AISC, ASME, ANSI).
Competency in engineering analysis tools (RISA-3D, Ansys, Mathcad) and project management software (MS Excel, Microsoft Office Suite).
Familiarity with 3D laser scanning and CAD integration for clearance validation.
Certifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, with California licensure highly desirable.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication, collaboration, and reporting abilities.
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
Physical Requirements:
Willingness to travel to project sites.
Capability to work in diverse environments, including outdoor and construction sites.
