Job Description:

The IT Learning Spaces – Instructional Technologist position plays a crucial role in fulfilling the Learning Spaces team's mission by creating and supporting the best learning, teaching, and collaboration environments through world-class information technology services.



This position serves as an integral support within the Learning Spaces team, supporting and administering enterprise academic technology solutions for the University. Primarily working within the College of Nursing, the role provides support, training, and guidance related to OU's enterprise learning management system, Canvas, as well as additional software such as Respondus LockDown Browser. Other responsibilities include supporting Simple Syllabus and assisting with data input of class schedules and instructor of record assignments in the student information system, PeopleSoft.


The position is tasked with delivering excellent customer service through troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to academic technology. Additionally, it involves assisting in the development and delivery of support documentation and training. Through consistent collaboration with application owners, system administrators, and IT Services, the role ensures optimal end-user experiences.

Duties:



  • Develops and implements professional learning and sustained improvement on the use of instructional technology through a variety of applications and across a variety of positions. 

  • Crafts, delivers, and supports technological innovation across curriculum for students, professional learning experiences for educators, and college and career readiness activities for all stakeholders.         

  • Identifies technologies that enhance learning on campus, online, and through hybrid means of delivery.

  • Performs initial research & development, assisting with tool discovery and understanding. 

  • Research and reporting of market trends.    

  • Works with staff to incorporate effective e-learning tools into curriculum and develops web-based information resources that enable stakeholders to use educational technologies effectively.        

  • Troubleshoots and assists with technical issues related to instructional design or instructional technology.

  • Provides Tier 2 and 3 support to faculty, students, and staff.

  • Serves as initial escalation point.

  • Directs communication with Tier 1 support regarding support needs, upcoming changes, and downtime.      

  • Facilitates and delivers training effectively to the campus community.        

  • Plans and designs learning experiences that use instructional content that meets the diversity of the learners.  

  • Employs a variety of learning methods and emerging technologies to reach learning outcomes.

  • Identifies appropriate evaluation techniques and applies them to measure the impact of the learning experience.        

  • Identifies technologies that enhance learning on campus, online, and through hybrid means of delivery.         

  • Evaluates and recommends academic technology tools. 

  • Selects the most appropriate investigative methods or information retrieval systems, evaluating information and its sources critically.   

  • Conducts/reviews of internal and external stakeholder needs assessments.       

  • Identifies challenges in the facilitation of professional learning experiences and demonstrates an ability to select and apply the most effective solutions.

  • Troubleshoots and assists with technical issues related to instructional design or instructional technology.        

  • Generates activity reports as well as coordinating and documenting projects.       

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required education: Bachelor's degree AND:



  • 12 months working in instructional design and/or instructional technology.


Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months of related experience.

  • Knowledge of instructional theories and design processes.      

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.       

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
