We are seeking a full-time Sr Product Safety Compliance Engineer in any of these locations: Phoenix, AZ, Olathe, KS or Cary, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for providing compliance leadership and project planning to ensure product safety across multiple Garmin locations, throughout the product develoment process.
Essential Functions
Partners with Garmin technology leaders to deliver best-in-class high-end home theater and automotive systems, Marine, Outdoor and Sports products
Creates and implements complex regulatory compliance plans for major product development programs
Contributes to advanced regulatory and standards research on new technologies, markets and geographic regions
Creates and executes recovery plans as needed, displaying excellence in project management (identifying critical milestones, gating items and priorities, determining deadlines for deliverables on critical path, and communicating to cross-functional team members)
Identifies compliance related risks, effectively communicates the threat and suggests best means for avoiding or reducing the risk
Provides the compliance direction and takes the lead on regulatory input during the product design process and leads compliance and safety design review meetings
Independently determines general approach and specific solutions to compliance problems, offers process improvements, and authors new procedures with oversight
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with product safety design, testing, compliance test plans and country certifications or homologations
Understands production and operations issues as they relate to compliance engineering
Experience reviewing safety design aspects for circuit design/PCB layout
Ability to explain and document regulatory and standards requirements and constructively critique compliance plans written by teammates
Demonstrated proficiency in and can communicate advanced concepts such as LPS (limited power source), limited current circuit, single fault condition, insulation systems, CTI, etc.
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
iNARTE certification in EMC and/or Product Safety
Past participation on a standards-writing committee
NFPA membership and/or contributions to the NEC
