We are seeking an experienced full-time NCCCO certified Crane Operator to assist with heavy civil construction project activities with an emphasis on Pile Driving & Bridge Construction.



Position Description

Crane Operators must be able to operate cranes outfitted with leads & hammers as they drive pile in support of retaining walls, bulkheads, and foundations of structures such as bridges, buildings, and piers. Qualified candidates will have experience with all aspects of Bridge Construction including setting girders & hook support required for Bridge Construction. This includes the knowledge & ability to assemble & disassemble cranes.



Position Requirements
  • Operate hydraulic cranes up to 200 tons
  • Understand the basic functions and operations of various types of pile hammers – diesel, air, hydraulic, and drop hammers & possess the experience & knowledge to use them in driving production pile.
  • Experienced with setting up & driving pile with templates.
  • Experience with hook work related to Bridge Construction such as setting girders, setting forms, & supporting concrete placement.
  • Ability to read, understand and use crane load charts to determine load and radius capabilities of cranes.
  • Have general knowledge of construction rigging – use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, multi-part load blocks, etc.
  • Operate crane according to signals from Pile Driver
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA Regulations and ANSI standards in crane operations.
  • Current NCCCO Crane Operator Certification (LBC Required)
  • Perform daily inspection of cranes
  • Clean, maintain and lubricate equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance
  • Carry tools for running repairs
  • Maintains a clean job site; picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Take complete charge of all safety pertaining to set up and knockdown and operation of crane
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy construction projects.
  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director or HR manager.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites including extreme weather conditions that include but are not limited to high heat and humidity, cold, ice, snow, & rain. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.


Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee works from platforms at height. The employee walks and works on unlevel, steep, slippery, wet, muddy, & inconsistent ground. The employee must have excellent stamina.
