Job Description Summary
The Chemistry Library is seeking a motivated, energetic intern. This is an opportunity for a chemistry or library and information science student to jumpstart their career and learn about chemical information and the workings of a small departmental library, while also gaining insight into the workings of a large academic library system. The intern will learn about and participate in all aspects of chemistry librarianship, including providing support for collections budgeting and management, participating in Web-based outreach, providing general reference to the Penn Libraries via their chat and information desk, writing guides and documentation, and attending relevant library-wide meetings. Project work will support current library efforts, and will be tailored as closely as possible to the individual interests of the intern. The internship will be for 10-20 hours per week.

Patron Services and Instruction, including
Developing, updating, and maintaining remote education materials including Web guides and tutorials
Providing general reference support for the Penn Libraries, including chat reference
Preparing supporting materials for course-integrated instruction sessions
Assisting in the design of exhibits in the Chemistry Library Collection Development Responsibilities, including
Assisting with a project to evaluate the Chemistry Library's on-site print journal collection
Assisting with the annual budget process
Analyzing usage statistics for electronic resources Professional Development Activities, including
Attending workshops and training sessions that will develop job and professional skills
Attending other applicable Penn library meetings, as assigned by supervisor

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania All applicants must be currently enrolled in a master's degree program in chemistry, chemical engineering, or library/information science, with an interest in chemical information or science librarianship. An undergraduate degree in chemistry or a related discipline is preferred but not required. In addition, the successful candidate must have the ability to manage and prioritize their workload and must be able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment. Other requirements include:
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, HTML, and Web site generation and design
Experience searching online databases
Flexibility, accuracy, and attention to detail in work
Excellent written communication skills
