Position Summary

The University of Alabama Libraries seeks a collaborative, dynamic librarian to fill the position of Electronic Resources Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Electronic Resources and Scholarly Communications, the Electronic Resources Librarian ensures optimal and accurate access to subscription resources, including databases, electronic journals, and e-books. The Electronic Resources Librarian supports the development of new methods of subscription and resource acquisition and strives to increase available resources for The University of Alabama community.



Detailed Position Information

The University of Alabama Libraries seeks a collaborative, dynamic librarian to fill the position of Electronic Resources Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Electronic Resources and Scholarly Communications, the Electronic Resources Librarian ensures optimal and accurate access to subscription resources, including databases, electronic journals, and e-books. The Electronic Resources Librarian supports the development of new methods of subscription and resource acquisition and strives to increase available resources for The University of Alabama community. As a tenure-track faculty librarian in the Resource Acquisition & Discovery unit, this position contributes to the overall management of the area, helping to ensure completion of goals in an efficient manner in support of university and library strategic goals. The successful candidate must have willingness for continual learning, development, and application of additional expertise through work related experiences and professional development opportunities. They must possess the ability to deal with change, ambiguity, and complex problems in an academic setting. This is an excellent opportunity for early career librarians or recent graduates to gain valuable experience managing all aspects of electronic resources management working under knowledgeable faculty librarians, while gaining experience at a flagship R1 institution.


The University of Alabama Libraries is engaged as a beta partner on the FOLIO project. The Electronic Resources Librarian will work as part of the FOLIO project management cycle as modules are developed and tested. University Libraries currently is a Voyager site and uses EBSCO Discovery Service as its discovery layer.


The person in this position may be asked to pursue grant writing opportunities and submission of projects relevant to the mission of University Libraries and The University of Alabama. Responsibilities of the position may change as University Libraries continue to evolve.


Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Managing electronic resources through the establishment of product trials, access management, record maintenance, subscription renewal, and ongoing vendor relations.
* Processing invoices in a timely manner.
* Activating and managing new and existing e-resources within the knowledgebase of the University Libraries access management systems.
* Resolving problems relating to e-resources access in a timely manner.
* Collecting and reporting financial and usage statistics in various forms.
* Providing information, training, and support to inform colleagues and the campus of new features and interface changes related to e-resource discovery.
* Responsibilities of the position evolve as the library environment continues to change.


SALARY/BENEFITS: 12-month tenure track faculty appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. Salary range is $75,000.00 to $85,000.00, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and advanced degrees. Strong benefits including professional development support and tuition fee waiver.



Minimum Qualifications

* Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
* Strong commitment to customer service excellence.
* Proven ability to utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty, students, and staff.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex and changing environment; proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and complete tasks according to an established timeframe, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
* Commitment to conduct research and scholarship consistent with the requirements of a tenure-track faculty appointment.



Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working with electronic resources in an academic research library setting. * Demonstrated aptitude and experience with relevant information technology, such as integrated library systems, open-URL link resolvers, and Microsoft Office applications, including proficiency with Excel. * Knowledge of current models, practices, and tools used by academic libraries for the acquisition and management of e-resources. * Familiarity with the COUNTER usage data standard. * Familiarity with the EBSCO suite of tools, including EBSCOAdmin, EBSCONet, EBSCO Usage Consolidation, EBSCO Collection Manager, EBSCO API, Full Text Finder, GOBI, etc.
