The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.
Position Specific Summary:
The Assistant Nurse Manager manages direct care nursing functions to assure that health services, medical care, medical/health professions education, and evidence-based practice research programs are delivered effectively and efficiently. Positions in this job family will have direct patient care responsibilities. Efforts will focus on planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical and education programs of clinical departments.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday day shift
Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa

Education Required:
Baccalaureate in Nursing is required
Required Qualifications:
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
2 years of pediatric nursing experience with demonstrated skills in leadership
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent problem-solving skills, decision making, and critical thinking skills
Proficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs)
Demonstrates time management, organization of workload, delegation, attention to detail and thoroughness
Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments
Demonstrates effective teaching skills for staff and patient education
Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with procedure suite and post procedure recovery standards
Experience working with Pediatric Anesthesia and Sedation Services and Pediatric medical/surgical subspecialties procedure care (e.g., Dentistry, Derm, GI, Nephrology, Peds surgery, Radiology, urology)
Certification in a role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body. If not currently certified, must seek certification in a role or specialty as soon as eligible to sit for the exam
Experience working in a large academic medical center
Experience working in a union environment
