The research technician will support exciting research projects at the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative diseases. The projects within this laboratory focus on identifying pathogenic mechanisms and potential therapeutic pathways in Parkinson’s disease. The research technician will work closely with other members of the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative diseases. Primary responsibilities will include performing basic mammalian cell culture techniques, and tissue processing and immunostaining, confocal microscopy. Perform general laboratory duties, such as making buffers and media. Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, possess attention to detail, work well in teams and have excellent organizational skills. Preferably a Bachelor Neuroscience, Biological Sciences or related discipline is preferred. Previous experience in basic cell and molecular biology techniques is a plus but not required.
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
The function or job duty is highly specialized, and the position requires a special expertise or ability to perform the job duty.
Physical effort – minimal. Will require some lifting and moving rodent cages.
Must be able to get around a university setting.
