As a Senior Scientist in Biologics Engineering and Tumor Targeted Delivery, Oncology R&D in Gaithersburg, MD, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives! The Department of Biologics Engineering and Tumor Targeted Delivery is seeking a highly motivated scientist to further develop and implement AstraZeneca's proprietary non-natural amino acid platform for constructing next-generation protein conjugates. The successful candidate will contribute to the improvement of the transient expression system, development and support of new targeted therapy modalities entering AstraZeneca's pipeline, and expanding the capabilities of the nnAA chemistry to support high DAR therapeutics; i.e., branched linkers, dendrons, etc. A strong background in protein engineering and material science as well as competence in cell culture and protein purification is desired. The applicant will operate independently and in collaboration with team members and scientists across Research and Development to develop our next-generation conjugates platform. The selected individual will be a well-organized, productive bench scientist who can learn new procedures, design and execute experiments efficiently, work collaboratively, and analyze and interpret data.
Accountabilities
Experience transiently expressing proteins
Experience profiling targeted therapies in vitro
Understanding of drug development, preferably biologics
Experience with in vivo characterization preferred, i.e., mouse PK and TGI study design
Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work within teams
Familiarity with molecular biology is a plus
Ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities
Essential Skills/Experience
PhD with 5 years of experience
Strong understanding of non-natural amino acids and their use in targeted therapies
Click-chemistry and thiol-maleimide conjugation experience
Proficient in biophysical characterization of proteins (E.g., Biochemical assays, immunoassays, light scattering, and analytics)
Cell culture and cell-based functional assays
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Demonstrated experience in optimizing/troubleshooting protocols with a problem-solving mindset
Excellent organizational skills, record keeping, and data presentation
Track record of publications and/or presentations
Familiarity with molecular biology techniques
Experience with high DAR therapeutics such as branched linkers or dendrons

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $105,875.20 - 158,812.80. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
