Job Summary
RN is responsible for participation in Infection Control and Employee Health activities. These activities include prevention, surveillance, and documentation to reduce the transmission of infections and promote a healthy workplace environment. Educates employees on the policies and procedures related to Infection Control and Employee Health. This incumbent maintains liaison and collaboration with other employees, departments, agencies, and community organizations in preserving the community’s public health.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for implementing and following Infection Control, Employee Health, and Disinfection and Sterilization program policies and procedures; Review existing policies and procedures, identifying gaps and outdated information.
Maintains current knowledge of infection control practices. Uses CDC, CMS, The Joint Commission, county and state, APIC regulations, standards, or guidelines to recommend changes in infection control practices and procedures. Attends conferences, seminars, and state meetings to keep current.
Participates in Infection Control and Employee Health activities within the organization including infection control surveillance of facility and associated clinics.
Collaborate with the Human Resources Department to ensure completion of all health screening for onboarding employees to ensure current status of immunizations and testing to meet the employment requirements.
Tracks occupational health trends. Assists in planning, developing, and implementing employee health programs targeting identified trends improving the health of the employees.
Maintains documentation of immunizations and employee health.
Provides new employee orientation to infection control principles and practices and employee health. Provides annual infection control training for all staff and provides updates and reviews of infection control principles and practices as required or as changes occur.
Maintains files and prepares reports on Infection Control and Employee Health activities.
Participates on the Environment of Care Committee.
Participates in daily multidisciplinary inpatient rounds and assess for hospital acquired infections to ascertain the possibility for epidemic potential and proper precautions needed to avoid transmission to other patients and hospital staff.
Assists in tracking all infectious diseases. Provides education and follow up as necessary.
Chair the Infection Control Committee, working closely with the Safety Officer, Nurse Managers, Medical Directors, and others. Prepares agenda and conducts meeting.
Facilitates compliance with state and federal requirements, and accreditation with The Joint Commission.
Notification of reportable diseases to tribal, county, state and/or federal departments.
Support administration with infection control and employee health reports, maintain complete and accurate records.
Use epidemiological principles and statistical method to design, implement, and evaluate infection prevention and control strategies.
Provide recommendations to reduce the risk of infection as part of the design, construction, and renovation process.
Collaborate with on the evaluation and monitoring of environmental cleaning and disinfection practices and technologies; collaborate with others to select and evaluate environmental disinfectant products.
Actively promotes and monitors hand hygiene compliance. Communicates hand hygiene rate to Infection Control and Quality Council committee and assists in forming actions plans for improvement.
Resource to facility employees, completes written and/or oral reports and/or recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team, as necessary concerning infection control and employee health.
Requirements
Active and Unencumbered state license
BLS (AHA only), CIC is preferred but not required
Immunizations: COVID vaccine
Experience required: Infection control/employee health
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
