Business Development Specialist at American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)

Job Description:

This role is responsible for lead generation and qualification, bidding strategy, proposal strategy, and client/teaming partner follow-up with the goal of maintaining and winning new client business across the Government Client market. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing sales plans and actions to increase revenues and profitability.


What You Will Do:

  • Solid understanding of Sales Development Tier III business and a drive to provide excellence in service delivery to new Tier III clients through new consulting opportunities.
  • Market analysis, lead generation, targeting, and qualification of new prospective clients for ABS Bureau.
  • Day to day contact with potential and existing clients for new sales, proposal and contracting activities.
  • Interact with proposal development activities including screening client information for scope determination, teaming partner considerations, and price to win discussions to support a timely submittal of a compliant and compelling response to potential client.
  • Ongoing sales reporting for management (using Microsoft CRM, Monday.com, and other BI systems).
  • Lead major proposal activities in coordination with the proposal team.
  • Participate as needed in the commercial, legal, and financial review of proposals and support of negotiations with prospective clients.
  • Identification of and participation in industry events.

What You Will Need:


Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited university preferably in a business, finance, or technical discipline.
  • 2 years of experience delivering/selling marine and offshore services (organically or through new growth) to Tier III customers with an established and current network of professional and customer contacts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of the competitor's landscape and how to differentiate ABS Bureau offerings to the client.
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills in a variety of sales settings, including demonstrated experience selling to Tier III clients.
  • Considerable attention to detail.
  • Focus on results; strong desire to achieve objectives despite challenges.
  • The ability and willingness to work in a matrix management environment by collaborating with peers and colleagues in ABS Bureau service lines.
  • Self-sufficient using computer and database tools.
  • Good organizational, research & problem-solving skills.
  • Can-do approach to tasks and conscientious towards client service.
  • Devise and enact effective brand recognition and brand positioning strategies for ABS Bureau
  • Demonstrated ability to close sales and meet or exceed sales
  • Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System

Reporting Relationships:


Reports to the Manager of Business Development or Director of Business Development.
