Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition is responsible for overseeing the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of dietetic internship in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ASCEND), the accrediting agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). This includes planning, organizing and directing the education of the dietetic interns; effectively identifying, analyzing and responding with solutions to problems, and making sound and timely management decisions.
Responsibilities also include setting a climate of team work within and outside the department and ensuring quality standards, overall efficiency and high productivity within the department. In addition, provides consultation to health care professionals and studies within the department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs, implements, and evaluates the curriculum, including the didactic and clinical components to meet the criteria established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ASCEND) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
Monitors and directs the in-patient and out-patient, community and food service supervised practice experiences of the Dietetic Interns.
Develops, implements, evaluates, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures of Dietetic Internship that are consistent with the hospital and departmental policies and goals.
Directs and counsels the dietetic interns in professional growth and development.
In coordination with the Director of Nutrition directs, coordinates, develops and evaluates the training of preceptors along with directing the staff in the identification of competencies, planning of learning experiences and designing of evaluation tools.
Collects data and prepares written reports including all ASCEND and site visit materials
Monitors the progress of the Dietetic Interns via progress reports, conferences and clinical evaluation forms.
Plans and evaluates didactic classes for the Dietetic Interns. Develops classes with Medicine, Surgery, Nursing and other allied health professionals
Communicates with the AND, ASCEND, Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); maintains standards of the Commission of Higher Education of the U.S. Department of Education.
Effects formalized agreements with the outside rotations and specialty rotations for Dietetic experiences
Acts as liaison with other Dietetic Internships to coordinate joint class planning.
In coordination with the Director of Nutrition, establishes criteria for Dietetic Intern selection and directs the recruitment selection and appointment process.
Maintains current knowledge in the field of nutrition and dietetics, professional practices and relevant aspects of management and administration
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Registered, Licensed Dietitian.
Two - three years experience preferred.
Masters Degree
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Must possess high level of interpersonal skills to provide effective counseling to interns, direction to preceptors, and to develop professional classes with members of the departments of Medicine, Surgery, Nursing and Hospital Administration.
Must possess leadership skills to successfully direct interns and preceptors.
Must possess administrative and managerial skills
Must have public speaking skills necessary to present nutrition program to professional
Must have skills in writing for the lay and technical areas.
Must have demonstrative ability as a dietetic practitioner
