The Patient Services Coordinator II, under general supervision, provides administrative support to health care providers in a high-volume ambulatory setting, functioning as the primary interface between the patient and the providers. The emphasis is placed on the ability to organize priorities, complete tasks, manage confidential patient information, schedule patient appointments, diagnostic testing, referrals and other managed care related issues. Serves as an overall resource person for unit staff.
Consistently demonstrates courtesy and respect to patients and other customers
Performs all check in functions as outlined by the MGH/MGPO Front Desk Standards of Operations including assuring arm band identification for all patients
Performs the daily management of encounter form processing and reconcilement
Ensures the completeness of all forms and performs basic ICD-9 coding, CPT procedure coding as required to complete the visit encounter forms for processing
Understands all the HMO, Managed Care and other Third Party Insurers. Functions as a resource to patients around managed care plans, insurance and referral issues, with an ability to perform electronic insurance verification
Triages and manages complex telephone calls appropriately especially with regard to patients' clinical problems
Maintains confidentiality and privacy which is consistent with HIPAA guidelines
Provides basic information/instructions to patients regarding Hospital and practice procedures. Will arrange for escort or interpreter services, as necessary.
Receives, sorts, and distributes mail for the unit. Faxes and receives faxes containing confidential patient information. Assures that faxed patient information is distributed to the correct provider in an appropriate time frame.
Coordinates and manages the flow of patient charts from practice settings to the Infusion Units
Qualifications
HS Diploma/GED required
Previous healthcare experience preferred.
