Description

This position will research, prepare, proofread and edit written materials including advertising copy, business communications, reports, presentations, articles, commercial brochures, case studies, newsletters, event announcements, video and radio scripts, web and digital promotions in order to target and drive web traffic. This position will serve as an integrated marketing specialist for the Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications to support a wide range of campus partners (including admissions, enrollment, student engagement and experience, academic programs, athletics, academic colleges and schools, Office of the President, and others) with marketing counsel and implementation, and analyzing and evaluating for marketing efforts.

This position will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining content for program pages for one of the university's four colleges which requires working with SEO best practices and regular coordination with IMC's web team.

Communicate, coordinate and schedule meetings with both campus partners and internal staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of all creative services requests, customer communications and other marketing-related projects from conception to completion.

Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student employees.

Examples of Duties

Marketing and promotions to include: -65%

  • Understand and articulate UCM’s brand and marketing strategy which details how the website is central to all marketing efforts. With the website as the driver and foundation, visualize and plan how all marketing integrates with the website.
  • Work in cooperation with the Office of the President, Admissions, Recruitment and Outreach, and all departments on campus to increase recruitment, retention and outreach.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with UCM departments to identify their objectives and challenges, better assess their needs and recommend marketing solutions.
  • Research, prepare, proofread and edit written materials including marketing communications plans, advertising copy, business communications, reports, presentations, articles, brochures, case studies, newsletters, event announcements, video storyboards, and radio scripts in order to target and drive web traffic.
  • Research, prepare, proofread and edit landing page content for digital promotions.
  • Research, prepare, proofread and edit web content including blog posts and other content marketing pieces. Convert developed content for use on the website and in social media.
  • Serve as the primary content editor for assigned college, school and academic program pages. Communicate with program coordinators on an annual basis to update content form accuracy and missing information. Use SEO tactics to write and edit content.
  • Keep abreast of the latest SEO web writing tactics.
  • Assist with developing, maintaining and advocating content and web content strategy for UCM utilizing research, national data, personas, journey maps and site data.
  • Assist with maintaining upper level information architecture web pages by reviewing at least quarterly.
  • Understand and communicate how UCM’s website page components/wireframes apply to content strategy.
  • Cultivate and provide regular fresh content to the website in order to leverage SEO.
  • Assist in the development of social media plans to increase recruitment and engagement. Utilize various social media such as Linked In, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tik Tok and other emerging social media platforms.
  • Communicate, coordinate and schedule meetings with both campus partners and internal staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of all creative services requests, customer communications and other marketing-related projects from conception to completion.
  • Write concise, engaging content that adheres to brand guidelines for tone and voice, use appropriate content distribution channel, and when writing web content, optimize for search engines in order to increase web traffic.
  • Work closely with theIMCteam to brainstorm new, innovative ideas for projects, even outside of your area of expertise, that would further UCM’s institutional aspirations across digital, web, social media and traditional channels.
  • Ensure that all materials produced align with the positioning platform and brand messaging.
  • Assist the Associate Director with projects and tasks as required/assigned.
Strategic planning to include: -20%
  • Provide general support and assistance to the Associate Director with the execution of UCM presidential, departmental and program marketing plans, strategies and projects.
  • Develop effective, consistent and relevant branding and positioning messaging around university goals and initiatives.
  • Maintain UCM’s marketing recruitment campaign guidelines and writing style standards and work with departments to ensure their marketing communications and promotions reflect UCM’s specific standards.
  • Help with the planning and execution of presidential and university-wide initiatives such as Get the Red Out, 150th celebration and future priority initiatives.
  • Participate with other IMC staff members in the planning, execution and evaluation of new marketing technologies, techniques, and initiatives.

Management to include: -10%
  • Assist with the recruitment and training activities of IMC graduate assistants and student employees.
  • Assign writing and marketing jobs to student employees.
  • Recruit, train, supervisor and evaluate student employees. Mentor and provide writing, customer service, time management, and marketing guidance to student employees.
Marketing event coordination to include: -5%

  • Assist with the recruitment of talent for television, radio, web and other campaign media.
  • Assist with the coordination of photo and video shoots.
  • Manage and facilitate in-house marketing events including Get the Red Out Street Fair and talent searches for university TV, radio, web and social media ads.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (Specify field(s) of study below), Master's degree (Specify field(s) of study below)
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field preferred.
Experience:
  • One (1) year of writing or marketing experience required.
  • Two (2) years of project management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of AP style required.
  • Two (2) years of web content experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of digital advertising experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of SEO content writing experience preferred.
  • Social media knowledge preferred.
  • Customer relationship knowledge preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Event planning experience preferred.
  • Must submit three (3) writing and publication samples as part of the application process with blog and web content samples preferred
  • May be asked to share hard-copy samples of work if invited for an interview that demonstrates experience including examples such as SEO website and online content, articles, blog posts, white papers, e-books, email campaigns, etc.
