Position Summary:
The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University invites applications for a temporary instructor - Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History position to start January 2025 and end May 2026. The preferred candidate will have a specialty in modern and contemporary art, however, all areas will be accepted. The Department of Art + Design, one of eleven departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Communications, offers majors and minors in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Art Education, Art History, and Digital Technology and Design with approximately 180 on-campus majors. Arkansas State University is an accredited institutional member of NASAD.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The 5/5 teaching load will focus on our art appreciation course designed for non-majors, but will also include upper-level undergraduate courses and a survey course that combines both western and non-western art.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong, proven commitment to teaching at the college/university level Excellent oral and written communication skills Interest in curriculum development Ability to integrate technology in teaching
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as requested and/or needed Regular and reliable attendance

Preferred Qualifications: PhD in the history of art awarded by the start date Successful university-level teaching experience Specialization in modern and contemporary art history
