Responsibilities

· As Process SME, benchmark (external) and power users (internal) to drive best in class manufacturing standards for process excellence.

· Document standard manufacturing processes and requirements.

· Manage roadmap for both moving current processes to new best in class standards and enhancements of the process once standards are established. Plan the necessary budgets and plant resources to support, through the appropriate annual planning processes.

· Support the implementation of all new Operations Technology global process standardizations (including physical and digital solutions) to define the enterprise manufacturing process for each product.

· Evaluate and build partnerships with external best practice networks to keep current on latest process improvements, trends, and current lean practices.

· Develop a scalable process.

· Be an active member and the voice of Operations on our Global Steering Teams for each product.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and facilitation of driving Manufacturing Process Standardization activities across the Operations value stream to ensure successful process implementation and support.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the manufacturing operations standardizations team method of benchmarking and assessing. Apply the method/model framework.
  • Educate implementation targets on best practices and standard processes and gain an understanding of the requirements and obstacles that would impede the transition to best practices. Develop mitigations for any needed deviations from best practices.
  • Develop and deliver training and education on standard processes to implementation target teams.
  • Oversee the day-to-day progress of the manufacturing process standardization implementation projects to meet aggressive schedules according to budget, scope and quality including:
    • Establishing project management practices/methodologies and developing reports to communicate project status to key stakeholders.
    • Coordinating tasks and mentoring project team members to drive cross-functional collaboration.
    • Applying proven project management techniques, methods, and tools
    • Defining and documenting and implementation strategy and action trackers for each project.
  • Work collaboratively with Continuous Improvement to establish process performance monitoring.
  • Establish CoP of manufacturing sites with same core competency.
  • Continuously seek feedback from stakeholders on the process, effectiveness, metrics and subsequent activities to identify issues to resolve. Periodically conduct health check on the process and outcome.
  • Use metrics and analytical tools to understand areas for opportunity and change.
  • Report metrics to the leadership team to identify progress, root causes for correction or process improvement.

  • Work with OT peers to create process excellence standards (process, physical & digital) to be used as requirements and a playbook for new manufacturing processes being introduced, processes being moved, or processes being acquired.
  • Partner with Plant and Engineering teams to provide guidance and support in developing CAPEX requests to facilitate work cell make ready for manufacturing processes.
  • Partner with R&D & OT peers to evaluate the design for manufacturability of our new products. Provide guidance and requirements to the R&D team to support best in class manufacturing processing of our new products. Ensure that the product designs are optimized for manufacturing efficiency and scalability.


Qualifications

Senior Engineer:

· 5 years project management/engineering experience.

· MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience.

· Experience working as an engineering co-op considered at a rate of 50% of total co-op time worked at MSA.

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control and industrialization best practices.

· Demonstrates specialized knowledge of engineering discipline as well as broad practical knowledge of related discipline (process, Lean, Six Sigma methodologies).

· Ensures common understanding to align stakeholders and team members.

· Assist the team in effective decision making in a timely basis to effectively meet process goals.

· Support and execution of prioritized customer requirements through completion of project deliverables.

· Stays focused. Uses time effectively, keeping irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with work completion.

· Measures project performance using appropriate tools.

Engineering Project Manager I:

· 7 years project management/engineering experience, including Senior Staff Engineering Project Specialist activities for minimum of 3 platform-level (or equivalent) projects.

· MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience.

· Experience working as an engineering co-op considered at a rate of 50% of total co-op time worked at MSA.

· Applies project management expertise to coordinate team activities, complete deliverables, and meet project deadlines and objectives.

· Reviews overall process plan to gain consensus. Drafts comprehensive process standardization reports to more senior managers. Effectively delivers oral presentations meant to inform or persuade.

· Determines, records, and prioritizes requirements, constraints, and assumptions to establish the process specifications based on voice of customer.

· Directs work of employees within the context of managing projects.

· Measures process performance using appropriate tools.

· Identifies opportunities for improvement and determines a plan of action to implement.

Experience (preferred):

· Experience in the development of Project Plans and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) to facilitate assigned projects.

· In-depth knowledge of operations technology and its applications in industrial settings.

· Experience in Global or Regional Engineering roles.

· Experience selling the vision of process benefits and expected business outcomes.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and external vendors.

· Proven project management experience, particularly in driving process change in industrialization.
