Availability:Overnight Camp and training runs between July 7-August 15. Health Aides are required to live on site during the camp training and sessions-all meals, snacks, and lodging are provided during those times. Camp staff receive time off on the weekends and breaks throughout the week.
Location: Overnight camp is located at Camp Casey in Coupeville, WA on Whidbey Island.
Salary:$175-190/day
Position Summary:
YMCA Overnight Camps provide youth the opportunity to learn new skills, gain an appreciation for the outdoors, while experiencing achievement, relationships, and belonging. Health Aides work closely with the Camp Director to provide daily care and first aid to campers and staff. Nursing or pre-nursing students preferred. Health Aides primarily are housed in the health room and may be required to respond to health needs during the night. Health Aides step in as a cabin counselor throughout the day as needed.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist in the health screening at the start of each sessionMaintain all medications and health forms at check in and thereafterAssist in keeping cabin counselor first aid kits stockedMaintain a clean, professional, and organized Health RoomCommunicate health, allergy, or behavioral concerns to Camp Director, unit leaders and Staff as appropriate.Maintain all records accurately and appropriately: records of treatment, medication, phone calls; complete incident reports, as well as any required additional reports.Dispense, or supervise the dispensing of, medications as prescribed or as necessaryProvide basic first aid as needed to campers and staffHealth Aides step into a cabin counselor role when needed and provide other general camp support such as supporting activities, working with groups of campers, camp organizations and preparation for future sessions.Complete all required Y health training before camp startsBe a positive role model to children and staff in your attitude and actionsInteract and engage with children in an age and developmentally appropriate manner, and use positive behavior guidance techniquesAdhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standardsFollow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergenciesMaintain positive relations with parents and other staffProvide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their children to have a successful camp experiencePerform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum age 18Nursing or pre-nursing students preferredFluency in second language desired
