JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Scholarly Activity - Participates in scholarly activities as evidenced by: publication of clinical/scientific investigation, clinical observations, reviews, chapters or books; participation in clinical trials, and/or clinical investigations; reviews manuscripts. Design and conduct nursing/clinical research on various areas of nursing specialty. Publish and/or co-author findings and conclusions resulting from research in a timely fashion. Presents findings internally and externally. Assist in the design and implementation of programs which evaluates the efficacy of treatment, patient/family outcomes, nurse/system outcomes. Recommend approaches for improvement activities, recommend and perform new processes, collect and measure data, develop processes based on performance and communicate results. Assist in obtaining funding from outside sources for research and teaching programs. Develop and growth of new externally funded research initiatives. Identifies and disseminates opportunities for research funding and submits proposals based on strategic plan. Maintains a database of research projects. Presents scholarly work at regional, and national, meetings.
Nursing Research - Develops, and implements nursing research initiatives and programs. Conducts own program of research. Design, execute and record research results; apply standard scientific protocols to research; improve current methods and evaluate innovative techniques. Design and perform experiments and record data according to research protocol. Independently reproduce, evaluate, research and improve techniques currently used. Adapt new methods to existing procedures and modify current experiments through scientific knowledge and intuition.
Teaching and Training - Train and direct the work of other personnel as appropriate. Provides expertise to and education on research topics. Promotes collaborative interdisciplinary research. Makes contributions to teaching including: serving as an effective teacher, role model and mentor internally and outside of the medical center. May lead a teaching or nursing training program. May have input into the development of educational program at the department or system level. Participated on education related committees. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Review Patient Services research for scientific merit.
Leadership - May develops and mentors patient services staff related to research. Uses coaching, teaching, and mentoring skills to inspire and build confidence in others to forge alliances and garner support for research and evidence-based practice activities and projects.
Service and/or Administration - May serves as a liaison with local universities to facilitate research and evidence-based practice activities between institutions. Networks with other researchers locally and regionally. May serve in a key role in regional and national professional societies, program committees and governing boards. May participate in the development of Patient Service policies, procedures and standards. Serve as a role model of effective interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships and encourage team concepts. Effectively implement long and short term goals and objectives and ensures that they are aligned to the Department and medical center strategic objectives.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
A doctorate in Nursing or a related field with a strong emphasis in research. If Doctorate is in related field, a Master's degree in Nursing
Demonstrated expertise in nursing practice, education, and research
Demonstrated ability to write and publish in professional journals and texts
Demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding for research
Demonstrated ability in education (coaching, mentoring, teaching skills)
Current license to practice nursing in the State of Ohio
Assistant Professor faculty appointment with the UC College of Nursing, or eligibility
