SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION:


Are you an IT professional with experience in design and integration in a complex academic health care setting? Do you work well in a collaborative environment focused on solving complex problems that can improve the lives of patients and their families? We are looking for a Software Engineer to join the Information Services for Research group at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, one of the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the country. In this role, you will engineer solutions supporting both institutional initiatives and grant-based projects, involving a variety of enterprise technologies and systems, both cloud-based and on-premises, aimed at accelerating discovery and improving health outcomes for patients and families.



REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:



Technical Support

  • Design and implement software solutions independently, shaping the future of pediatric care.


  • Utilize expertise in software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms to create robust, efficient systems.


  • Participate in technical discussions, contributing to the development and testing of cutting-edge healthcare applications.





Business Process/Project Management

  • Play a key role in project planning and execution, collaborating with seasoned professionals on impactful projects.


  • Use Agile and Scrum methodologies to ensure timely task delivery while enhancing system performance and quality.


  • Contribute to process improvements that benefit patients and their families.





Customer Service/Support

  • Manage customer inquiries with empathy and precision, acting as the face of innovation.


  • Provide efficient technical support, ensuring a seamless experience for healthcare professionals.


  • Enhance patient care by resolving technical issues through technology.





Collaboration

  • Work closely with a diverse team, engaging in paired programming and technical discussions that foster continuous improvement.


  • Contribute to solving complex technical challenges under the guidance of experienced developers.


  • Support the enhancement of healthcare systems through collaborative efforts.





Software Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Take responsibility for ensuring software systems meet the highest standards.


  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to detect software issues.


  • Collaborate with development teams to resolve defects and make recommendations for system performance improvements.


  • Support the hospital's mission by ensuring world-class healthcare through quality software solutions.





JOB QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field


  • 2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline


  • Strong proficiency in Python and Django, including experience with the Django templating system, building RESTful APIs, and developing complex web applications


  • Experience with React, including working with component libraries like Material UI. Familiarity with state management libraries (e.g., Redux) and experience integrating front-end components with RESTful APIs


  • Proficiency with relational databases, including writing complex queries, managing database performance, ensuring data integrity, and experience with Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) models





PREFERRED



  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field


  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of a departmental and/or multi-departmental data management and analytics initiative


  • Familiarity with Git for version control, and experience with CI/CD pipelines


  • Experience working in agile teams, attending stand-ups, and contributing to iterative development processes.


  • Experience with cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform


  • Familiarity with healthcare or clinical research software and data security standards (HIPAA compliance)


  • Exposure to unit testing and integration testing frameworks for both front and back ends
