This position is responsible for handling livestock. Key duties include:
Weighing trucks when they are loaded and empty. Duties include accurately counting loads from different producers and recording details.
Track which loads are placed in the barn pens, maintain a running total of all pigs, use a computer to manage spreadsheets, and communicate with the USDA.
Sorting, counting, weighing, tattooing, and penning all animals in a hog yard environment.
Learning Tyson Pork Procurement Programs, including carcass merit, kill sheet information, weight docks, and other buying procedures.
Acting as a station relief buyer in the absence of the manager for training and vacation relief.
Requirements:
Education:
BS degree in Animal Science or Agriculture preferred.
Experience:
Livestock experience required.
Swine or cattle experience preferred.
Communication Skills:
Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to communicate efficiently with drivers.
Should be highly motivated in running a successful business.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills required.
Travel:
Overnight travel required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Physical Demands & Requirements:
Minimal bending required depending on the ability to motivate hogs with voice.
Minimal lifting required (e.g., flag and tattoo hammer, each weighing less than 5 pounds).
Some push/pull needed to open/close gates, drag downed hogs, and tattoo hogs.
Required to move and tattoo hogs with a flag.
Full-hand grasp required when holding flags, tattoo hammer, and gates.
Required to stand or walk for the entire shift.
Minimal force needed for most tasks; moderate to heavy force may be needed when dragging downed hogs.
Work Environment:
Team members may be required to wear a hard hat, steel-toe boots, or hearing protection.
Temperature of the work area depends on outside temperatures and may exceed 95°F.
Team members understand that their work could impact product safety, legality, and quality systems.
Additional Information:
The Supervisor/Trainer will keep team members updated on job functions to meet position requirements.
Team members will complete the necessary qualification requirements for their assigned roles.
This position is slated for candidates who are currently working at this facility. Priority consideration will be provided to these applicants first. If local Team Members are not selected, Team Members from other locations and external candidates will then be reviewed for consideration.
