Position Title: Engineer I/II/Senior or Principal Engineer Substation Engineering

Description: Provides engineering services for the design and construction of substation project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system. Provides technical project management for certain phases of a substation project including scheduling, design, cost estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. Assists with engineering studies and investigations and assists with preparing oral and written reports. Provides substation engineering assistance to other departments. Provides technical input to assist in project planning. Responsibilities include applying prescribed methods and standard practices in performing specific tasks within substation projects and assisting engineering staff on more complex projects. This is the entry engineer skill level position in substation engineering.
Responsibilities: Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of substation project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system. (50%) Provide technical project management for certain phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (20%) Assist with engineering studies and investigations and assist with preparing oral and written reports. (10%) Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%) Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. (10%) Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. " Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system. "
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
1-3 years of engineering experience is required for the engineer II.
5+ years of engineering experience is required for the sr engineer (PE licenses preferred).
8+ years of industry experience required for the senior engineer II. If no PE license, must have 10 years as a practicing engineer.
12+ years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, including experience performing highly technical work of specialized nature. Requires PE. If no PE license, must have 15+ years as a practicing engineer.
Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
