Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $34.60.

Johns Manville is currently hiring a Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic at our Defiance, OH plant. We are searching for individuals who are dependable, responsible, and quality-minded who have a history of working safely in a manufacturing environment.

This role will troubleshoot, repair and maintain all mechanical related functions, equipment, systems, buildings and/or physical structures in a manner that allows the plant to operate effectively and efficiently, working from general instructions from the plant management team, and all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection. This position will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Certified Journeyman Mechanic
  • Flexibility in work hours and assignments

Your Day to Day:

  • The following job functions are to be performed in accordance with the spirit and philosophy contained within the Operating Policy and in accordance with Company Policy:
  • Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
  • Perform mechanical preventative maintenance according to an established schedule on all required equipment.
  • Inspect machinery, lubricate and make adjustments or repairs as needed and take faulty equipment out of operation until repaired.
  • Effectively troubleshoot all mechanical equipment to identify issues within the plant and take necessary corrective actions to repair, replace or rebuild.
  • Continuously work in a safe manner and report all safety hazards.
  • Work with Maintenance Apprentice to develop there require skills to complete Apprenticeship program
  • Maintain an open and candid working relationship with immediate supervisor/manager discussing all matters of importance.
  • Perform other job functions as requested to support the effective and efficient operation of the plant, including duties of lower classifications.
  • Reads, interprets and follows blueprints and sketches, making all measurements and calculations necessary to complete the job.
  • Makes out work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution, material usage, etc., and performs other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed.
  • Directs, assists, and instructs other maintenance employees on jobs where it is necessary to work together or when requested by Supervisor.
  • Does gas cutting as directed.
  • Inspects/maintains plant buildings and maybe required to cast concrete forms and bollards as needed.
  • Operates, maintains, inspects, lubricates and repairs all plant systems as required. Housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Uses safe work practices and reports hazardous conditions. Follow safety guidelines, wear proper PPE and follow all general shop rules in the Defiance complex.
  • Attend all monthly safety meetings and complete safety/beware audits on a monthly basis.
  • Complete computer-based training and all other programs needed to stay in compliance with company policy’s

Language Skills

Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, straightforward written or verbal instructions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and communicate accurately with coworkers. The employee will frequently engage in repetitive motions. The employee must frequently, lift, push or pull 50 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven. Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. The manufacturing process involves toxic or caustic chemicals. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes steel toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection, gloves, head protection and in certain areas may be required to where dust masks or respirators.
