Bigelow 9 is an 18-bed inpatient, adult general medicine unit. This diverse population of patients is admitted directly from the Emergency Department and ICUs. The diagnoses range from: renal failure, CHF, diabetes, COPD, patients suffering from alcohol and drug withdrawal, etc.
Bigelow 13 is a 12-bed step down ICU where we specialize in acute pulmonary care and admit patients from any ICU in the hospital where they no longer need ICU level of care yet are too acute to be transferred to a general care unit. You will care for patients with sepsis, COPD, ALS, lung transplants, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, etc. Some of these patients have tracheostomies and have a need for mechanical ventilation.
** Experience with tracheostomies and mechanical ventilators is preferred, not required! **
