Quality Assurance / Support Specialist

The Quality Assurance / Support Specialist position is a member of an internal software development team employed to advance the organization's proprietary software platform. The Quality Assurance / Support Specialist role involves the combined skills of quality assurance, quality control, and testing of enterprise business software. The Quality Assurance / Support Specialist is also a liaison between the software development team and the customer support desk.

Duties

  • Quality Assurance: mitigating risk during the software development process
  • Quality Control: assessing released software, identifying and isolating any issues that represent lack of alignment between current behavior and end-user needs
  • Executing the quality role throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC):
  • Planning: providing quality-related feedback to documented requirements
  • Design: development of test plans and test cases, with the goal of assessing and mitigating risk in legacy functionality while validating new and updated features
  • Development: partnering with developers to incrementally test deliverables; utilizing and optimizing test scripts, procedures, and strategies to validate deliverables, assuring final integrated solution aligns with requirements and production usage
  • Delivery: participating with devops engineers and developers to deploy software to Production, with emphasis on maximizing reliability and repeatability
  • Operate: customer support ticket management, RMI duties, and security patch testing
  • Identifying and recommending solutions for improving software quality in all SDLC phases ("shifting left")
The desired candidate will have the following qualifications:

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with tools for project tracking: e.g. Dashboards, Wiki, Boards (Microsoft Azure DevOps is a plus)
  • Experience utilizing Test Plans, Epics, Features, User Stories, and Work Items to break down work for planning and dependency assessment
  • Microsoft Office tools: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Experience with Postman the API platform testing tool
  • ServiceNow change request and support ticketing system or equivalent
  • Knowledge and practical experience with full-stack software testing / troubleshooting
  • Authoring test reports targeted to technical, product, and business stakeholders
Experience
  • Minimum 8 years experience in support, testing, configuration, and delivery of software systems, with a minimum of 4 years in a quality assurance specialist role
  • Hands-on experience with project management software such as Microsoft Azure DevOps: using Dashboards, Wiki, Boards, Test Plans, Epics, User Stories, and Work Item management
  • Successfully delivered medium to large projects with engagement across all phases of the SDLC: plan, develop, deliver, and operate
  • Demonstrated success working in a fully remote and unsupervised work environment
Education Qualification
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science from an accredited college, or equivalent practical work experience
Experience with Standards / Certifications (helpful, not mandatory):
  • Certified Software Quality Analyst (CSQA)
  • Certified Associate in Software Testing (CAST)
  • ISO software standards for security and data management
