Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community,and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. The AssistantDirector of the Academic Achievement Center is responsible for the operationalmanagement of the Academic Achievement Center, including supervising peertutors, overseeing the College’s testing center, and ensuring the delivery ofhigh-quality academic support services. This position will also workclosely with the Director of the AAC to support and maintain excellent servicesfor all of MassBay’s students.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Operational andDay-to-Day Management:
- Handle day-to-day operations and administrative tasks within the Academic Achievement Center;
- Assist in managing the Academic Achievement Center’s budget and resource allocation as directed by the Director;
- Maintain and monitor budget records and expenditures for Testing Services and Student Employment in collaboration with the Director of the Academic Achievement Center;
- Participate and provide leadership for committees as assigned, department meetings, and district-level activities when appropriate;
- Assist with daily supervision and office management of the Academic Achievement Center as needed;
- With the Director, oversee the professional development and performance evaluation of Academic Achievement Center staff;
Peer TutorSupervision, Training, and Scheduling:
- Supervise and maintain the peer tutoring and supplemental instruction programs, including recruitment and ongoing professional development;
- Hire, train, supervise, and schedule peer tutors;
- Collaborate with administration, staff, and faculty across the College as needed to provide support for peer tutoring and supplemental instruction programs;
Testing Services:
- Oversee the administration and coordination of testing services, including Accuplacer, make-up testing, challenge exams and other exams as may be integrated (including TEAS, CLEP, etc.);
- Ensure that testing services are efficient, secure, and meet student and faculty needs;
- Collaborate with faculty and administration on testing services integration;
- Collaborate with Deans, Directors and others to stay updated on multiple measures for placement;
- Collaborate and coordinate with Admissions to work with high school guidance counselors, offering transition to college sessions for local high school students and preparatory workshops for placement;
Student Readinessand Support:
- Implement strategies to support academic readiness and success, including personalized support and intervention programs for all students, including online, underrepresented, and marginalized student groups;
- Ensure academic support services are accessible, equitable, and responsive to student needs.

Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education, higher education administration, counseling, social work, psychology or related field with a minimum of three years’ professional experience or equal experience with skills is required;
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a managerial role that includes direct staff supervision;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in communication, organizational, interpersonal, and technological skills to effectively manage and perform the above tasks and responsibilities;
- Ability to create and conduct effective programming for students with diverse abilities;
- Ability to establish productive working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
- Experience working in a diverse environment;
- Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
- Experience working in a community college environment;
- Experience teaching and/or tutoring students at the post-secondary level;
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft (Bay Navigator), EAB, Blackboard (Blackboard Ultra) or their equivalent systems;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and use discretion in handling confidential information, such as that protected by FERPA;
- Current knowledge of best practices in education at the post-secondary level.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $75,000 - $83,000 per year
