Under the direction of the Director of Design and Construction, and the Senior Facilities Planner, the Junior Facilities Planner will assist with system-wide planning initiatives and space planning work for various Nicklaus Children's Health System (NCHS) users to improve and maximize the use of campus space in support of the organization's mission. Works with the Senior Facilities Planner to coordinate planning studies for existing and anticipated space needs in NCHS' expanding network. Assists in the formulation of project development and conducts research for space planning projects. Manages the planning and design of projects of small to medium size complexity and risk including hospital and outpatient facility renovations, new construction, and/or space reallocation. Reviews drawings and specifications to ensure planning and design projects are in full compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and regulations. Provides proactive and timely management of assignments during all project phases and overall project resources. Ensures all key project objectives are achieved including safety, cost control, quality, schedule goals, and client satisfaction. Assists in managing and maintaining drawings, documents, space inventory data and occupancy data in Revit, AutoCAD & FM:Systems.
Job Specific Duties
Performs field survey and electronically documents using Revit CAD software existing locations, validating personnel space assignments, and architectural drawing accuracy.
Responsible for facilitating meetings and interfacing regularly with external consultants and internal stakeholders.
Assist in the production of presentations with goals, supplementary data, and graphics to support project initiative decision making process.
Assist the Director of Design and Construction, Senior Facilities Planner, and the Interior Design team in the development of design and construction standards and specifications.
Routinely rounds ongoing construction projects to monitor progress, safety compliance, and the general quality of the contractor's work.
Assists the Senior Facilities Planner with the development of feasibility programming studies and site selections with appropriate collaboration for capital projects.
Develops space program, concept layouts, furniture layouts, test fits and other planning materials for smaller in-house projects for small to medium sized projects.
Assists the Senior Facilities Planner in the preparation of capital project budgets and reviews to ensure that project designs adhere to space program, sustainable practices, established design standards, and quality standards.
Works with vendors and other departments to ensure proposed plans are viable and cost effective.
Responsible for the space planning/development of conceptual floor plans and detailed architectural designs for small to mid-sized projects.
Ensures projects are in full compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and regulations.
Ensures that all key project objectives are achieved including safety, cost control, quality, schedule goals, and client satisfaction.
Manages changes and updates to interior signage, furniture, and artwork.
Produces documentation necessary to plan, define, and implement assigned projects.
Coordinate planning and space requests, soliciting applicable stakeholder input for development of projects ensuring plans and programs comply with organization’s objectives.
Assist Senior Facilities Planner with planning studies, reports, and creating and maintaining records of planned occupancy decisions and timeline to inform the overall capital and master planning initiatives.
Coordinates design and construction efforts among user groups, and appropriate NCHS departments.
Reviews project documents with appropriate user groups and project teams.
Responsible for maintaining all project documents and records including life safety drawings, as-builts, O&M manuals permits, warranties, and equipment documentation.
Demonstrates high level of skill using computer programs for 2D and 3D design and renderings.
Assists in the development of project scope of work, project costs and schedules to support proactive project planning and procurement, and efficient project execution.
Minimum Job Requirements
Associate's degree Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, or a related field (OR) 4 years of related work experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, or a related field preferred.
Experience in healthcare planning, design and construction management, and/or space planning preferred.
Ability to implement NCHS procedures to ensure safety and security.
Knowledge of codes, ICRA, and ADA requirements
Knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, and building systems
Proficient in Adobe Acrobat is preferred.
Knowledge of working drawings and procedures
Knowledge of modular furniture systems
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
