Purpose:

The Analytical Chemist is responsible for using analytical techniques and instruments to perform material analyses that support the Research and Development team, including research scientists, application engineers, and plant operations.

Job Functions/Accountabilities:

• Works independently to perform routine analyses using established methods or techniques.
• Clearly communicates results to Scientists and Application Engineers verbally and in written reports.
• Maintains a clean, clutter-free, and well-organized laboratory
• Performs preventative maintenance and maintains calibrations on instruments as needed
• Works to continuously improve accuracy, reliability, and speed of current methods and techniques.
• Develops new methods to expand analytical capabilities with assistance from the Senior Analytical Scientist.
• Stays informed of the current analytical techniques, instruments, and technology.
• Strives to become the local subject matter expert in their analysis.
• Maintains compliance with all Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures.
• Adheres to the quality system.
• Performs all other duties assigned by the Senior Analytical Scientist.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or other related field is required.

Experience:

• 1-2 Years of experience as a Chemist in a lab environment with at least 1 year in an Analytical setting.
• Co-Op or Internship experience in an industrial or R&D setting is a plus.
• Experience with any of the following instrumentation is a plus: GC, IC, HPLC, GPC, FTIR, DSC, TGA, ICP, rheometer, titrator

Special Qualifications:

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment is required.
• Good verbal and written communication skills are critical.
• Basic MS Office and personal computer knowledge is expected.
