BASIC FUNCTION:


Greet all guests as they enter the Cafe. Swipe student ID's, take cash from guests, communicate about the menu, and implement Cafe policies concerning take-out meals. Follow proper cash handling policies. Set up and take temperatures of food service station. Great customer service is a key element of this job.





DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Greet guests with a smile and a welcome; understand and be able to inform guests on daily menu. Swipe guests cards and take cash in accordance with the current meal rate. Follow proper cash handling procedures.

  • Ensure cashier's desk is neat, clear of personal belongings including but not limited to carts, food, beverage, and personal belongings. Ensure window glass; sills are clean prior to, during and after shift. Ensures To-Go items are stocked before service and removed after.

  • Counts cash bank and verifies opening balance on cash reconciliation work sheet. Count out cash sales from meal period; complete reconciliation sheet; deposit all cash sales with manager on duty or as directed and receive verifying signature.

  • Ensures that all signage and menu are in their proper place and well presented prior to opening for the meal period.

  • Wipes down tables and chairs before/after the meal.

  • Set up deli bar prior to service. Utilizes the time/temp log to ensure food safety.

  • Confer with Snack Supervisor regarding the preparation and set up of snack menu.

  • Coordinate with Snack Supervisor to ensure that scanners are set up and working properly at East entrance of Collins.

  • Coordinates clean-up efforts of all the stations in the servery and dining room at the conclusion of Snack. Ensures that dining room is clean free from food and trash. Ensures that all areas are properly broken down, cleaned and sanitized.

  • Dining Room side work: Replace condiments, fill salt and pepper shakers, and place on clean tables. Refill napkins, discard dated table tents, clean tables, chairs, window sills; vacuum.

  • Other duties may be assigned as appropriate. This includes cross-training as time permits.

  • Follow proper Food Safety/Sanitation procedures including but not limited to logging food temperatures, proper labeling/storage of food, wearing cut glove when using a knife, wearing metal mesh glove when using deli slicer, using all food service equipment in a safe-appropriate manner as trained.

  • Consistency in all of the following is expected. Not following these guidelines could lead to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

  • Provide the highest quality of service to customers.

  • Follow all HACCP guidelines. Use safety equipment as required and appropriate, follow proper safety practices, and attend safety training sessions.

  • Participate as a member of the Dining Services team by being willing to report and resolve problems directly with your lead, manager and others involved.

  • Be flexible and open to new ideas and ways of working.

  • Take initiative in performance of your work tasks, and be willing to assist others as needed.

  • Work effectively with others. Be respectful and courteous.

  • Be courteous to coworkers, customers, visitors, managers and others. Strive to communicate clearly and professionally.

  • Do not threaten harm, raise your voice or yell to make a point.

  • Do not gossip, use profanity, words or actions that demean or "put down" another person.

  • Clock in and clock out only for yourself, never for another person.

  • After clocking in, on time and as scheduled, report directly to your assignment and remain on the premises while "on the clock."

  • Take breaks as authorized (within the times set by a manager or posted on the schedule).

  • After clocking out at the end of your shift, promptly leave the premises.

  • Correctly and safely use and maintain all dining hall equipment.

  • Personal use of cellular (cell) phones while "on the clock" is unacceptable. Emergency calls will be accepted at the dining hall office or Campus Safety (ext.72000).

  • Follow through on work commitments you make to coworkers and the College.

  • Comply with College policies as they now exist and as the College or department may adopt from time to time, including providing timely notice of absence and request for time off.





QUALIFICATION STANDARDS




EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.




EXPERIENCE: Prefer experience in food service industry.




CERTIFICATION: California Certified Food Handler Card




LICENSES: Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to provide the required documentation for proof of insurability with the College's insurance carrier.




PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must take and successfully pass a functional physical agility test after job offer and prior to hire. Employment is contingent on the satisfactory results of the aforementioned, in addition to compliance with requirements cited in this job description.



Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stop, twist, stretch, squat, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds from floor to waist level without assistance, climb ladders up to twenty feet with assistance and up to ten feet unassisted, and be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time.




REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.



  • Must be able to perform simple arithmetic functions relating to food and beverage preparation.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Must be able to work well without continual supervision.

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this position are full time, 5 days per week. Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.
