Department Summary


The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Texas (UNT) is a vibrant and expanding part of the College of Engineering, currently recognized as the second-largest department within the college. As a student-focused, public research university, UNT prides itself on fostering a dynamic academic community that emphasizes excellence in education, cutting-edge research, and innovation.

Position Overview


The Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department at the University of North Texas (UNT) seeks candidates for a tenure-track faculty opening at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level with a research focus on energy storage technologies, clean energy, and environmental sustainability to support the continued growth of the Mechanical Engineering Department with a preferred start date of Fall 2025.This position emphasizes teaching, research, and service, with a workload distribution of 40% teaching, 40% research and 20% service. Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, recruitment and supervision of graduate students, the development of an actively funded research program of the highest quality and impact, and service to the university and to the professional community.



Minimum Qualifications


All applicants must have a Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering or another closely related field.


Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Professor rank should have a sustained record of scholarship and external research funding, successful mentoring of junior faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and recognized service activities. Must meet UNT's criteria for tenure.



Preferred Qualifications


Candidates with expertise in any area of mechanical engineering will receive full consideration. While expertise in computational or experimental fluid/thermal sciences are desirable, any candidate who can demonstratively support major college and university.
