Job Description:

The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered 50% Staff Nurse to work within our new Endocrinology Clinic located in Cedar Rapids
, IA. Our clinics specializes in the expert care for diabetes and other conditions that affect your body's glands, hormones, and metabolism. We provide personalized diabetes treatment plans and follow-up care. UI Diabetes Care is a leader in the treatment of people with diabetes and has developed innovative programs designed to help prevent and control diabetes. We use a patient-centered care approach-a partnership between you and your team of physicians, nurses and dietitians-to develop a diabetes treatment plan that meets your needs. This position will mainly support Endocrinology but could also support other service lines/clinics based on clinical needs/hours.

Our Staff Nurses develop relationships and get to know our patients and monitor each family member's health care history and deliver personalized, compassionate care every time to each patient.

This position supports our clinics team-based care model spending more time within patient care as well as FREE on-site parking!!

Duties to include:

  • Staff will support our Endocrinology Clinic patients.
  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.

Percent of Time: 50% (20 hours per week)


Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 12pm, no weekends, no holidays, no on call


Location: Cedar Rapids, IA (this position could support other clinic locations, as needed)


Pay Grade: 52 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans


Salary: $55,910 - 102,559 (based on years of experience) at 100% FTE



Education

  • An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required

Required Qualifications

  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous endocrine patient care
  • Previous glucose monitoring / CGM experience
  • 3 - 5 years of recent staff nurse level experience in adult medical-surgical setting (highly desired).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain Certified Diabetes Educator within 2 years.
  • Current experience in self-directed, independent roles (autonomous work ability).
  • 1 year minimum triage experience required (within the last 3 years).
  • Previous diabetes patient experience.
  • Previous adult/family medicine patient experience.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
  • Previous EPIC experience.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience.
