A Day in the Life
The Engineering Director will lead and manage a Systems team supporting the Business Units in execution and strategy development, supporting the systems function helping define organizational strategy, coaching systems program teams, and defining continuous improvement initiatives, for the Cardiac Implantables Technology Development Center (CI-TDC).

This role will be responsible for developing an innovative team of technical leaders who support the timely execution of CRM programs and define CRMs system architecture of the future.
A Day in the Life:

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management:


  • Lead an organization with one or more managers to achieve objectives, developing their capabilities and industry / organizational awareness to support the CRM CI-TDC Systems organization.

  • Serve as a key member of the CI TDC Systems staff

  • Responsible for the on-time, in-budget delivery of System Development objectives and initiatives. This includes working across businesses to identify and prioritize a backlog of system development priorities.

  • Coach and mentor engineers and project teams providing appropriate and pragmatic actionable steps to maturing system development

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a robust talent pipeline for the Systems Development team

  • Strong communicator & able to influence cross-functional partners (e.g. BU R&D, project/program, and functional leaders) on their priorities and strategies to improve product scope, champion new development techniques, and promote intelligent reuse when possible

  • Develop relationships and coordinate strategies with cross-functional partners, program/project leadership, and other key stakeholders

System Development Pillar Strategy Owner:


  • Develop and maintain the vision of the Systems Development pillar

  • Accountable for furthering the use and impact of Modeled Based System Engineering and other development efficiency initiatives.

  • Responsible for long-term governance and maintenance of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) repository for requirements and design information.

  • Identifies opportunities for system design and architecture improvements and proactively works to influence and negotiate for funding and resources to support efforts.

Process and Knowledge Management


  • Deep understanding of the CRM development process (business and compliance) with demonstrated strengths in interpreting the process to achieve the desired process intent/outcomes

  • Works closely with business and compliance process owners to ensure the System Development voice is considered for process changes with an ability to help drive efficient and targeted changes to the process when necessary.

  • Reviews and advises on SE schedules for completeness and feasibility

  • Fosters a culture of trust, collaboration, pragmatism, and knowledge sharing

  • Drives efforts to encourage and capture intellectual property from the systems engineering organization.

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum 10 years of experience with a bachelor's degree (or 8 years with an advanced degree) in a product development environment with 7+ years of managerial experience

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to proactively escalate and resolve issues.

  • Strategic thinker with ability to implement new ideas.

  • Good at communicating in a concise but thorough fashion.

  • Understanding the full systems engineering lifecycle from concept to commercial release.

  • Experience as a research scientist or lead systems engineer.

  • Experience with the complete systems engineering lifecycle from requirements through

  • Experience with CRM/CDS products, therapies, clinical application, and general disease state physiology.

  • Experience in delivering major programs to market

  • Excellent collaboration and delivery across a matrix organization

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of the product development process in the medical industry

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$187,200.00 - $280,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
