POSITION SUMMARY:

The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology & Hypertension is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APRN/PA-C). The Nephrology APP functions throughout the system caring for nephrology patient needs across the adult continuum. The APP is an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP works in many settings both inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient dialysis units to manage acute and chronic needs of this population, including possible procedure, like point-of-care ultrasound. Specifically, this APP would be focusing on patients in the Cardiorenal and Onconephrology services. In addition, the APP will take occasional night, weekend and holiday coverage. This APP is generally service aligned and works closely with the Nephrology medical team and has a responsibility for ensuring an environment of safe quality care. The APP should have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education and should demonstrate advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and should take responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • CLINICAL: The APP works in many settings both inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient dialysis units to manage acute and chronic needs of this population, including possible procedure, like point-of-care ultrasound. Coordinates with physicians and nursing staff of related disciplines to ensure integrated patient care. The APP will take occasional night, weekend and holiday coverage. Communicates with referring physicians and their offices regarding patient problems/progress. Responds to telephone inquiries of patients and provides counseling and instruction regarding patient problems; sees the patients in the office the day of the call, if the issue cannot be resolved over the phone. Provides follow up health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of patients' medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the supervising physician. Prepares and dictates summaries of patient's initial evaluations and follow up care. May participate in ongoing clinical research projects. Participates in appropriate continuing medical education. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE: Complete clinical obligations such as chart completion, patient follow-up, etc.
  • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

Master's or Medical degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.

This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.

PREFERRED:

One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred. Experience in an Academic Medical Center preferred. Experience working in an Inpatient/Outpatient Nephrology clinical and/or experience in dialysis center setting highly preferred. Experience in Clinical Research preferred.
