Position Summary:

The Department of English at the University of South Florida seeks to appoint a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Composition with a focus in first-year composition for a start date of August 7, 2025.

The successful candidate will contribute to a growing graduate program in Rhetoric and Composition and to our undergraduate major and minor programs in Writing and Rhetoric and Professional and Technical Communication.

Salary is negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:


  • A Ph.D. in English with a focus in Rhetoric and Composition from an accredited institution required; ABD applicants must have degree conferred by appointment start date.
  • Applicants will have a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching composition


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cutting-edge approaches to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in rhetoric and composition
  • Research agenda and administrative practices that are informed by contemporary research in writing studies and knowledge of writing program work
  • Experience working with stakeholders across institution and across discipline(s)
  • Knowledge in writing assessment, curricular design, and instructor mentorship
