ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

Florida College Access Network (FCAN), an organization hosted by the University of South Florida, leads the collaborative movement to ensure every Floridian achieves an education beyond high school and a rewarding career. FCAN's work combines research, policy analysis, advocacy, public will-building, statewide initiatives and the support of local college access networks throughout Florida.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position requires a dynamic policy analyst with a passion for advancing evidence-based policy solutions to improve college and career readiness, access, and completion for Florida students, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. This position supports Florida College Access Network's policy analysis and advocacy strategies. The position reports to the Associate Director (external title: Director of Research and Policy).

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Policy and Related Research:

    • Conducts P20W educational policy analysis and related research, both quantitative and qualitative;
    • Develops evidence-based policy briefs;
    • With other FCAN staff, work with state and national partners, systems, policymakers, organizations and research institutions;
    • Supports development and implementation of activities related to policy strategies and related research.
  • Advocacy:

    • Participates in development and implementation of advocacy plans for policies to improve college preparation, access, persistence and attainment;
    • Meets with and educates and informs policy makers, influencers, and education stakeholders on relevant research and policy issues;
    • Supports FCAN's work with legislative and state agencies to build advocacy platform;
    • Cultivates relationships with policymakers and stakeholders;
    • Finds synergy with FCAN policy and advocacy priorities;
    • Supports development of strategic partnerships related to shared goals;
    • Builds advocacy capacity of partners through coordination of training and technical assistance.
  • Communications:

    • With executive director, staff, and consultants, support implementation of communications/marketing plans to promote FCAN initiatives, events, and publications as well as market FCAN brand;
    • Supports development and dissemination of communications materials through a variety of venues, including reports, fact sheets, info-graphics, interactive data tools, digital collateral, conference and meeting presentations, blog posts, and op-ed pieces;
    • Represents FCAN at professional conferences, workshops and convenings;
    • Presents on policy issues and related research at meetings, conferences, and webinars;
    • Participates in social media activities to support advocacy goals.
  • Assists with and/or facilitates the organization of meetings, conferences, forums, events, training workshops, webinars, and other FCAN-hosted convenings, including the FCAN Summit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the program responsibilities and two years of professional experience; or a Master's Degree in an area of specialization appropriate for the program.

FLSB1310 Equivalency:

4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree and three+ years of related professional experience. Knowledge of P20W policy issues and data. Experience working with Florida legislative process. Strong critical and analytical thinking. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:

Microsoft Office, virtual meeting technologies (Zoom, Teams).
