ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The Division of Student Success at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus is focused on providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. Health and Wellness services at the Sarasota-Manatee campus promotes a proactive and compassionate approach to holistic wellness and student development in an inclusive, collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment. The Center for Victim Advocacy & Violence Prevention provides confidential and comprehensive victim services to USF students, faculty and staff who have experienced crime, violence or abuse, either on or off campus.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Victim Advocate and Violence Prevention Coordinator provides individualized services to students and consultative services to the campus community. This position provides survivor-sensitive and trauma-informed services within an integrated healthcare framework for those who have experienced crime, violence or abuse. This position largely entails providing crisis intervention, navigating reporting processes (e.g., law enforcement, Title IX, Student Conduct), and offering emotional support to survivors through an empowerment-based model. The Coordinator will also develop, implement, and evaluate campus-based violence prevention initiatives.

This position is considered Essential Personnel for USF as it relates to health and wellness needs and emergencies. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Success at the Sarasota-Manatee campus and has a dotted reporting line to the Director of the Center for Victim Advocacy & Violence Prevention at USF Tampa. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Victim Advocacy: As a Victim Advocate, serve students who have experienced victimization (e.g., sexual assault, gender-based harassment, stalking) by providing crisis intervention, education, referrals, and follow-up services (e.g., Injunctions for Protection, accompaniment to hearings and medical exams, coordination with other campus departments, academic accommodations, and assisting with Title IX processes). Advocacy services will be delivered through survivor-sensitive and trauma-informed practices, while maintaining confidentiality, collaboration, and inclusiveness. It will be important for this position to research information relevant to victim issues, and stay abreast of current best practices, standards, and research in relevant fields. Conduct risk/lethality assessments and safety planning, identify needs, and provide appropriate referrals and information to assist survivors in their healing journey. Provide follow-up services as needed. Assist survivors in navigating reporting processes within the University and local law enforcement jurisdictions.

The Victim Advocate will also be available after-hours for students indicating urgent needs (shared responsibility across OneUSF advocates). There is a rotating on-call component to this position, which may include responding to victims in immediate need of assistance and providing accompaniment, across all three campuses and at local hospitals on nights and weekends as needed. Therefore, access to reliable transportation is required.

Violence Prevention: As a prevention coordinator, support campus and University violence prevention efforts by providing educational programming and consultations to the campus community. Use a prevention framework to empower students to be effective change-makers and to cultivate a USF community free of violence by providing inclusive, comprehensive education and tools. Special attention will be paid to bystander intervention training, campus safety policies, and healthy relationship skills (specific programming will also account for coordinator experiences and strengths). This position will work with the Assistant Director to participate in health education programming and events while serving as a member of the campus Health Education Team. Programming will be delivered in concordance with the team's integrated health education wellness model. Examples may include: Wellness Week, Relationship Violence Awareness Month, Denim Day, Clothesline Project, orientations, and other office and division-wide collaborative efforts. This may also include facilitating comprehensive and inclusive trainings on violence prevention topics, as well as on-campus outreach to include tabling events and awareness month initiatives.

Administrative Tasks: Complete administrative functions and tasks. This may include securing room reservations, submitting event and purchase requests, managing attendance and outreach data, identifying budgetary needs, etc. Maintain referral and educational resources, stay informed of Title IX/SOS policies, represent the office on university/division committees and initiatives, and maintain records according to appropriate legal and ethical standards. Also responsible for supporting other Health & Wellness tasks, as needed (e.g., strategic planning efforts, trainings, outreach, programming, etc.). It's important to be able to navigate a complex system and build community partnerships to support the work.

Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM: Each position assigned to this classification must require specific training at the Bachelor's degree or Master's degree level in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or other field appropriate to the program content. Bachelor's degree candidates must have at least two years of applicable experience. The Master's degree may substitute for the required experience. Specific certifications or licensures may be required or preferred for certain program areas.

PREFERRED: Master's degree in criminology, counseling, social work, women's studies, or other related fields. A minimum of six months experience in victim services (encompassing knowledge of trauma-informed, survivor-sensitive victim service provision, criminal justice system process, Florida criminal statutes, and issues related to a wide variety of crime victimization). Designated by the State of Florida as a Victim Services Practitioner* or equivalent certification in Victim Assistance Training through the Office for Victims of Crime. (*Please be advised that applicants lacking the Victim Services Practitioner Designation must obtain it within the first year of employment). One year of post-graduate professional work experience. One year of work experience in a college environment. Experience in providing educational workshops and consultation services.
