Assistant Professor of Environment & Sustainability (Climate Social Sci)
The Environmental Science and Policy program promotes multidisciplinary education and research to produce active and literate environmental citizens, leaders, and problem solvers. We emphasize the value of integrating knowledge and approaches from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and professional schools to generate a holistic understanding of environmental issues and policy making, while simultaneously stressing the need for in-depth training in at least one environmental discipline.
The Environment & Sustainability Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will have a joint appointment in the Environment & Sustainability Program and a department within the social sciences. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. We are interested in individuals with research expertise in the social scientific dimensions of climate change, broadly construed.Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills toregularly teach the core environmental policy making course in the Environment & Sustainability Program and teach compelling courses on the social dimensions of climate change that complement and extend the program's curriculum.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a discipline that explores the social scientific dimensions of climate change, such as anthropology, economics, environmental studies, political science, or sociology at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).
Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar.
