The Ultrafast Spectroscopy Research Scientist will contribute to the operation and maintenance of the NeXUS facility, with specific responsibility for the ultrafast, extreme ultraviolet (XUV) spectroscopy systems that include capabilities for ultrafast XUV absorption, reflection, and magnetic circular dichroism; time-resolved photoionization measurements; and liquid sheet generation to support XUV measurements.
NSF NeXUS is a state-of-the-art user facility dedicated to studying material and molecular dynamics using ultrafast optical pulses (infrared to XUV/soft X-rays) and a variety of measurement instrumentation. The NeXUS facility includes three beamlines, with tailored ultrafast light in each, and multiple end stations supporting distinct analysis approaches. NeXUS is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and hosted at The Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio, USA). NeXUS is finishing its commissioning phase and entering its operational phase when it will host user experiments.
The Research Scientist will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and advancement of the ultrafast XUV spectroscopy systems. These systems are all custom-built within the last five years based on laboratory research systems. The beamline uses high harmonic generation to generate XUV pulses. The end stations support time resolved measurements using XUV absorption, XUV reflection, and photoionization detection. They support gaseous, solid, and liquid samples. The liquid samples employ a liquid sheet technology. The Research Scientist will have expert knowledge of the underlying physical principles of these experimental systems and measurements.
The Research Scientist will:
