The Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) educates design, research, and scholarship leaders to make a resilient, just, and beautiful world. In collaboration with the Facilities Coordinator, manage the work order system which includes creating, responding, completing, and tracking work orders daily.
Completes minor repairs to systems and equipment including, but not limited to carpentry, door hardware, furniture repair/assembly, heating and cooling issues, lighting, moving, painting, and plumbing. Completes work requests, maintenance projects, and operational assignments with minimal supervision.
Follows up with faculty, staff, and students to make sure work orders are completed properly.
In consultation with the Associate Director of Facilities Management, determines what can be performed by facilities, or by an outside vendor.
Ensures that properties are maintained to Harvard standards for all physical aspects of buildings, systems, and grounds.
Performs routine inspections of buildings to ensure that egress paths are clear and maintained.
Performs regular site walk of all properties to ensure normal operations and notify Associate Director of any changes in normal operations. Creates and completes work orders associated with these inspections and makes arrangements for service calls and repairs if needed.
Coordinates and performs office moves in conjunction with Facilities Coordinator
Receives, assembles, delivers and sets up office furnishings and equipment
Maintains furniture inventory, makes repairs and refinishes furnishings;
Assists in the set-up of furnishing, accessories and equipment for events including commencement, symposia, conferences, lectures, reviews, meetings and receptions.
Occasionally subject to after-hour calls for emergency and critical situations.
Assists with snow removal.
Assists with mail delivery.
Assists with all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
There are no supervisory responsibilities required of this position.
Basic Qualifications
HS Diploma or equivalent required
3+ years in technical training and/or demonstrated experience beyond high school in the following: hardware, woodworking, furniture assembly, and building maintenance, required.
Must have working knowledge of power and hand tools, and maintenance, construction, or building trades.
Ability to use computers for work order tracking, required.
May be deemed critical and must accommodate business demands when Associate Director of Facilities has determined it to be necessary, accept over-time for snow removal, maintenance emergencies, special projects, and peak season hours.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry systems preferred.
Basic computer skills which include the ability to respond to emails and internal department software.
Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment.
Must maintain a positive attitude, be self-directed and work effectively as part of a team.
High quality customer service is required.
Working Conditions
Work is mainly performed in an office and school setting.
