WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The External Affairs Associate III (Associate) supports The Nature Conservancy's conservation goals in New Mexico by leading project teams of staff and partners, designing and delivering project objectives, and serving as liaison and informational contact between The Nature Conservancy and federal, state, local and tribal agencies, business and interest groups.

The Associate plans, implements and coordinates programs at the state and local government level to affect public policy to further the Conservancy's mission. Duties include daily contact with local, state and federal agencies and elected officials, on matters pertaining to administrative and legislative actions. They build and facilitate internal networks, plan and coordinate meetings, agendas and presentations. They influence the outcome of policy at the federal, state and local government levels. They develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, Tribes, traditional communities and private sector to advance a shared conservation agenda for New Mexico.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in natural or social science, public policy, communications or other related degree and 4 years related experience or equivalent combination
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience presenting to and/or communicating with business, government, or legislative staff and/or program leadership.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and directing multiple complex projects and ensuring program accountability.
  • Communications experience including preparing and presenting project proposals and developing written communications.
  • Experience working with corporate or NGO partners, and government agencies.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Spanish-speaking and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Master's degree appreciated.
  • Supervisory experience, including ability to set objectives and manage performance.
  • Familiarity with social, economic and political conditions and issues in New Mexico and / or the Southwestern US.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.
  • Experience coordinating projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.



SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $81,750 - $86,500 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
