REQUIREMENT

We are seeking a collaborator to join the Industrial Innovation Laboratory (IIL) as contributing technical member, shape the current state and future of production, maintenance, and repair of aerospace and defense systems.

The IIL team works within our research facility in Fairborn, OH, and is comprised of a multidisciplinary group of hardware and software engineers working in the following areas: Additive manufacturing, Material repair techniques, Robotics and automation, Augmented and virtual reality, Non-destructive inspection, Digital thread / digital twin.

This position will focus on developing and enabling novel capabilities in the additive manufacturing space.

It requires a self-starter with the ambition to tackle difficult technical challenges in a results-oriented collaborative environment. Attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, personal integrity, and commitment to quality work are a must. A flexible schedule, informal environment, and opportunities to demonstrate and expand technical skills provide a setting for creative, impactful work.

This is an on-site role.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, test, update and improve algorithms for processing large datasets acquired from metal additive manufacturing machines.
  • Enable novel process for metal additive manufacturing.
  • Navigate and update existing legacy codebases to meet customer needs.
  • Update user interface using C#/XAML
  • Work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and other developers to gather requirements and feedback.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and decisions clearly and proactively to the project team.
  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and other collaborative activities to ensure high-quality work.
  • Contribute to the overall software development process, including planning, estimation, and process improvement.
  • Proactively identify and address technical risks or challenges that may impact the project.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of cumulative professional experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience using C# and/or C++
  • Familiarity with a scripting language (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Experience instrumenting research/manufacturing systems and analyzing resulting data.
  • Interest in metal additive manufacturing
  • U.S. citizen (required) and be able to obtain a Secret security clearance if needed.

You’re a standout candidate if you have one or many of the following:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, or related field
  • Cumulative professional work experience of 7 to 10 years
  • 5 years of experience using C#, C++, or Python.
  • Experience using MATLAB (and/or Python) to conduct analysis of large dataset acquired from manufacturing systems.
  • Experience in metal additive manufacturing.
  • Experience in CUDA programming for Nvidia GPUs
  • Experience in PLC programming
  • Knowledge of manufacturing machine controls design, test and implementation

EDUCATIONAL, CLEARANCE AND CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor (or Masters) in in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, or related field
  • U.S. citizen (required) and be able to obtain a Secret security clearance if needed.

PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Requires visual, hearing, and mobility capabilities to work in an active research and manufacturing environment, with ability to lift up to 35 pounds and operate manufacturing machinery.

TRAVEL

  • Nominally 5-10% travel anticipated in support of project activities and trade shows/conferences. and will performed will be under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations and/or Joint Travel Regulations.
