Position Summary:
The Institutional Services Assistant is responsible for general cleaning of areas in and around office buildings, class rooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, resident halls, dining areas, building common areas, and other areas as required. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Adhere to the vision and guiding principles of the Finance and Administration Division, which are Fairness, Honesty, Respect and Accountability
Perform custodial work assignments and other general work assignments in a professional and courteous manner
Working Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the work assignments for their assigned team
Motivate, train and interact with the individuals under your supervision to assure assigned work areas are cleaned, maintained and organized on a daily basis
Ensure assigned team members are trained to properly use chemicals, supplies and equipment as well as to put in force this use on a consistent bias
Maintain an accurate inventory of building supplies and process a requisition to replenish supplies when needed
Maintain records regarding maintenance needs and safety deficiencies in assigned areas
Request and conduct safety procedural training for members of your assigned team
Inspects assigned work areas to ensure the correct level of cleanliness is maintained and correct areas that fail to meet the expected cleaning standard
Generate work orders for building and equipment maintenance and other areas of need
Develop computer skills in Banner System, FAMIS, and internet usage
Empties waste baskets, dumps trash, and replaces trash bags
Use cleaning supplies, equipment cleansers and other agents to clean floors, furniture, walls, windows, and windowsills
Sweeps, mops, and buffs floors, vacuums and shampoos rugs, cleans baseboards, dusts furniture and fixtures, washes windows and blinds, and empties trash
Strips and waxes floors, as needed
Cleans bathroom fixtures and stocks bathroom with soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels
Collects and launders dirty linens, towels and other soiled items
Monitor maintenance and grounds needs and assure that proper reporting procedures are followed
Reports work orders to operational personnel concerning minor and major maintenance repairs
Conducts inventory of equipment, linens, supplies, and materials to maintain current demands and determine future needs
Follow oral and/or written instructions while work independently without close supervision
Wear the assigned uniform as designated in the uniform policy
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and cleaning equipment operation and maintenance
Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work, use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture, use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment, work independently without close supervision, follow oral and/or written instructions, perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments, perform repetitive manual work, and do required lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday 4:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. Additional hours as requested and/or needed Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma
Preferred to possess a valid Driver's License
Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee
