Overview: The Converting Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the production facility's converting operations, which include reclose packaging, pouching, and zipper application. This role involves supervising multi-shift operations and providing technical oversight to ensure efficient and high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing:
Develop and maintain efficient workflows within the department.
Ensure a consistent supply of materials.
Maintain accurate production reporting and documentation.
Oversee daily departmental activities.
Ensure effective employee training programs.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Manage staffing requirements, including vacation planning and coverage.
Technical/Quality:
Achieve quality, production, productivity, and safety goals.
Collaborate with the Technical Department on customer or machine tooling.
Perform quality control testing and enter data into the database.
Coordinate with the Technical Department for trial/product development materials and specifications.
Oversee and ensure compliance with food safety/SQF standards, including SOPs, pre-operational checklists, audits, and recalls.
Manage projects, including the selection, installation, and startup of major equipment purchases.
Identify and implement equipment, process, and procedural improvements.
Comply with all company-wide and department-specific SOPs, including those related to employee health and safety, SQF, GMP, and SGP.
Supervisory:
Oversee and coordinate activities of shift personnel, including Shift Supervisors.
Conduct employee evaluations and direct staff development.
Manage disciplinary actions as needed.
Address issues and situations objectively and fairly based on company policies and guidelines.
Qualifications:
Management experience in a flexible packaging operation, with a focus on converting operations (e.g., pouching, reclose packaging).
Basic mechanical skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Ability to analyze P&L results from manufacturing data.
Good communication and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing ERP systems.
Knowledge of web handling processes.
Experience leading manufacturing teams.
Excellent organizational, time-management, and presentation skills.
Ability to solve complex problems with limited standards and time.
Self-starter with initiative.
Project management skills and the ability to gain buy-in from all organizational levels.
SQF Certification is a plus.
