POSITION / TITLE: HDM Driver- Client Relationship Specialist
RESPONSIBLE TO: Home Delivered Meals Program Manager
STATUS: Regular; Full-time (M-F, occasional Sat.); Non-Exempt (Hourly)

POSITION SUMMARY: Delivery of meals, in accordance with a brief welfare check of our clients throughout the city of San Francisco.
ABOUT MOWSF: Meals on Wheels provides a network of services that allow seniors to live in their homes with dignity and independence as long as possible.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Driver License and good driving record will be maintained during the entire employment period. The driver must demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse client population including low income, disabled and mentally ill clients. Driver must be able to lift up to 50lbs, and be able navigate as many as 80 flights of stairs. Please read the physical requirements carefully!
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of Home Delivered Meals Program Manager, and in accordance with the provisions of MOWSF's Employee Handbook, the HDM Client Relationship Specialist is responsible for:
• Delivering meals throughout San Francisco to homebound seniors on the Meals On Wheels program, and Young Adults with Disabilities. • Develop relationships with the clients. The relationships and daily contact with the clients is the key to providing a meaningful daily welfare check. Over time the Client Relationship Specialist should be able to assess changes with client's conditions and abilities to care for themselves and possess the ability to recognize loneness and isolation. • Observing and reporting client changes regarding well-being to the appropriate Social Worker assigned to client's route. • Making sure that the correct number of meals is picked up from the kitchen and that the correct type of meal and diet is delivered to each client.• Loading racks and bags of meals into vehicles for delivery.• Obeying all traffic laws and maintaining a good DMV record while driving for Meals On Wheels of San Francisco. • Representing the agency with our clients and with the community at large in a courteous and respectful manner• Completing appropriate paperwork during and after delivery of meals.• Collecting client contributions and making out receipts for any cash or checks received.• Distributing MOWSF information to the clients. 2• Maintaining the cleanliness of vehicles. Inspects vehicles daily to ensure optimal operating standards. Reports all vehicle performance or safety issues to the HDM Operations Manager and the HDM Program Manager.• Performing other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:In addition to the items listed in the driver job description, candidates for the driver position must be capable of performing the following physical job requirements. Proof of ability will be shown by completing a documented physical checkup previous to hire.
DRIVING: Up to 7 hours a day in city traffic. The ability to tolerate the vibrations and bumping that are associated with driving a mid-size truck for several hours daily. The HDM Client Relationship Specialist must possess ability to handle the stresses of traffic, lack of parking and less then friendly drivers, and bicyclists.
SITTING: Up to 7 hours daily. HDM Client Relationship Specialist will be frequently entering and exiting the vehicle however so the sitting will not be continuous.
LIFTING: The ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
LOADING: Loading of the vehicles requires the ability to lift 45 lbs. up to 20 times during a 10 to 15 minute period as the meals are taken off of carts and racks and placed into the vehicles. For the frozen/chilled meal routes, the meal baskets must be placed into the back of the refrigerated vehicles into the racks designed for them. This requires the ability to lift the baskets off of the cart and into the vehicle.
For hot meal routes, the insulated meal bags which weigh between 35 and 50 lbs. must be lifted off of the cart and placed into the back of the vehicle.
Candidates for the HDM Client Relationship Specialist position will be asked to complete a test showing that they are in fact able to perform the loading of meals into the appropriate vehicles.
HDM Client Relationship Specialist staff will be given training on loading and lifting safely upon hire. Additional in-service trainings will be given on client welfare assessments, safety during the course of each year.
PUSHING: Pushing the rolling racks, carts and the meal baskets through the loading area. Moving the rolling racks that contain the frozen meals will require pushing and pulling and can require a great deal of force and must be performed by two staff members. 50+lbs.
PULLING: Occasional. 50+lbs.
REACHING: Frequent. Reaching while lifting will also occur frequently. HDM Client Relationship Specialist will reach at full arm's length with actual weight of 10-12 lbs.
CLIMBING: Many deliveries will require climbing stairs to the front door or between floors. As a single driver may deliver to up to 150 clients per day, this may involve climbing and descending upwards of 80 flights of stairs while carrying 25 lbs. with each arm. HDM Client Relationship Specialist may also occasionally have to walk up hill from a parking space to a client's home while carrying meals up to 25 lbs. with each arm. 3WALKING: HDM Client Relationship Specialist deliver to an average of 150 clients daily. This means that drivers will need to be able to comfortably get out and in the vehicle for each client, carry the meals to the door of the client repeatedly throughout the day. It is sometimes necessary to park some distance away from the client's home to make the delivery. Walking distance could exceed 2 miles per day.
KNEELING: Occasional.
SQUATTING: Occasional.
TWISTING: Frequent.
ROUTE DEMANDS: Each HDM Client Relationship Specialist will be expected to meet route demands based on route size and scope. The descriptions below describe the different types of routes and the minimum number of clients a HDM Client Relationship Specialist should be expected to deliver within a standard 8 hour work day after the performing the route a few times to gain familiarity.
A route: House to house wide spread route (Sunset) requires traveling several blocks between clients. Staff member will need to find parking and then make the delivery. Hot-Chill minimum 65, and frozen 90.
B. route: Combination route of wide spread house to house, and building to building. Staff member will be required to drive all types of traffic conditions, parking and deliver to a wide range of client environments. Hot-Chill minimum 75, and frozen 90
C. route: Building to building with densely populated buildings (SROs) requires driving in city traffic, parking and transporting multiple meals to the same space, with or without working elevators. These routes are two persons. Hot-Chill minimum 125, and frozen 90
SALARY / HOURS/BENEFITS:$20.50 per hour. This is a regular full time non-exempt position of 40 hours per week. Driver shifts can start as early as 7:00 am and not end until 3:00 pm.
This is a non-exempt hourly position based on a 40-hour work week. Paid vacation and sick time are allowed and stated in the employee handbook. Health, dental, vision, accident and life insurance is paid by the agency. Other optional fringe benefits in accordance with MOWSF Employee Handbook.
