The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Froedtert Hospital is a 21 bed critical care area that cares for some of the most critically ill patients in the state of Wisconsin and Northern IL. Our patient population includes critically ill patients: trauma surgery, acute care surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic surgery, plastic surgery, neurology and neurosurgery all of whom require the highest level of monitoring and specialized nursing care that can be provided. Our inter-professional team consists of Nurses, Critical Care Technicians, Physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Nurse Practitioners, PT/OT/speech Therapists, Social Workers and Dieticians who work together to ensure optimal high quality care and outcomes for our patients. With a patient to nurse ratio of 2:1 or 1:1 our team is passionate about providing exceptional care to every patient and their family.









Job Summary:





The Critical Care Technician (CCT), under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides delegated age appropriate care in a culturally and ethnically sensitive manner in the Critical Care Units. The CCT assists patients with the tasks outlined in their clinical competency assessment related to basic nursing skills, personal care skills, basic restorative services, and necessary critical care skills.. The CCT practices and performs what was taught during their CNA training and certification or learned during basic nursing courses at an accredited school for professional nurses. The CCT may be asked to provide continuous safety observation. This job reports to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager of the assigned Critical Care Unit and the RNs on duty on each assigned shift. Other duties as assigned.






EDUCATION PREFERRED:





High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.





TRAINING REQUIRED:




Completion of the Critical Care Tech course or equivalent within 6 months of date of hire is required.





LICENSURE REQUIRED:




State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification is required, otherwise must be currently enrolled in a nursing program and able to provide documentation from an accredited school for professional nurses indicating successful completion of the basic nursing course which encompass all of the criteria noted by the State of Wisconsin administrative code and a minimum experience of one acute care medical/surgical clinical rotation. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
